Hey guys, I just got my self a great deal on a sub at walmart. I tried to post a pic of it but they don't have it on thier website. Anyways, if anyone is interested, you can get a 10inch sub, in an enclosure with an amp for $50. I just put it in the jeep and it sounds really good. It is also very small and fits perfectly in the little trunk space behind the rear seat. Takes up less than half the space. So just for anyone interested.

Dont know if this is similar to what you're talking about or not
-
no, it's not a bazooka tube. It is a rectangular ten inch box and a seperate amp. It's actually smaller than the tube is and is $50 for both.

I currently have a 8" sub in a 12x12x13" box behind the rear seat. It's ok but I'd like to eventually replace it with a custom box. My current box is seal so it has very tight base. It could use a bit more thump from a bandpass and a 10" mounted under the rear seat. Still, a single box isn't bad. A lot smaller then a bazooka too.

I don't bump bass, I like other music. I remember that cop in Vegas this year that shot that guy for bumping his fresh bass in his face . Snoop dog was illin. I got a blaupunkt or something speaker in a home stereo speaker box that is as loose as a goose in my trunk though.

i got a 10" pioneer, the new shallow on, its 3 inches deep

I bought some discos and a trunk the other day. The trunk might screw up me mounting any kind of sub behind the rear seat.
Use only two, 4x6 speakers now, which are the halfway decent Polk-Momos (what can I tell you, Crutchfield had a deal a couple of years ago)
I'm doing this because I am under the impression that my Kenwood/Sirius Receiver can only power two speakers fully - adding rears or a subwoofer and making them sound worth a darn requires an amp for full power.
Kind of keen on the idea of a subwoofer (hopefully securely mounted) for a Wrangler. Seen the ones under the drivers seat, behind rear seat, in a hollowed out center console. Guess I could do the under-driver's seat install + an amp - just that not really in to the idea of the seat directly muffling the flow of sound. What to do (besides drive without a driver's seat) :?

I used the Tuffy security console with slots for a sub....mounted the amp under the rear seat....two 5.25 speakers in the soundbar and 2 5.25 (with conversion bracket) in the front....all Alpine except for the sub as Sony was the only one that had a decent 8" at the time. It's as loud as I ever need it...even with the doors off on the freeway!!
-
The Tuffy/subwoofer center console sounds like a good move. Thing is, , in my case, I already bought a Tuffy center console - where I keep my receiver, too - a couple of years ago. So, I'm looking for a way to just keep the thing in place and mount the sub elsewhere. Maybe some kind of metal speaker box that I can bolt/weld securely to the interior location above one of the rear wheels.
Perhaps I can cut a hole in the middle of the top of my new trunk and mount a 10" sub internally.

sounds like a good deal.. tobad i still dont have a radio in my jeep.

Was looking at the Crutchfield site and the Bazooka Subs. I wasn't really planning to go cheap on a Sub, but these low-priced Bazookas are apparently fairly small versus others. They are also reviewed as providing decent bass - more than you'd expect given their size. Any of you using them?

Walmart has an 8inch sub for $99. The box I got for $50 is even smaller.

The advantage of the bazooka is that you can get a marine type which can handle water if you were no inclined to. The regular bazooka is plastic and fairly robust. Some of those knock off tubes are made from paper. They use an industrial roll size tube. If water gets on the carpet skin you can say goodbye to the tube.
The real down size to the bazooka though is the size. Band-pass boxes and tubes are big. The 8" is probably what I'd go with size wise. A 10" is huge and the 6.5" is a bit small. If anything you can go with two 8's or 6.5's. For optimum interior space, you'll really have to look into a custom box. There are a lot of places that can be sealed off and made into a box.

I totaled the car I had before I got my jeep. it had a fairly large band-pass box with two 10s. It was too big to fit behind back seat of the jeep so I contemplated rigging up something so I could still use the 10s and my amp but never got around to it.
Then I got a 8'' bazooka bass tube as a gift. I never really looked into one but it was real easy to hook up and didn't need any mounts at all just lay it behind the backseat. I have to say after going from two 10s in a band-pass box and 1200 watt amp to this tube with an 8" and 50 watt amp... I was defintely surprised how much bass this lil thing puts out.
I'm sure there are better fabrications out there but this seems like a fairly cheap and convinent alternative to buying a new center console or custom building a sub box to go behind the seat. Another advantage I've noticed is since there is no mounting needed really you can move the tube around or even take it out without much of a problem. Buuut that in itself could be one downside too... if you have a soft top and someone wants to be a jerk.

I have one of these (VDP Enclosure)

driven by one of these (MTX Thunder 4122)

I still have storage on either side of the box, I put weatherstripping around the edge of the top to seal it and it bolts to the floor so it is secure. Very nice setup. I am not a "boomer" but I like my music to sound full. It sounds like music should in a variety of music types.

I forgot to mention that the 8inch tube is a bazooka tube.

Call it whatever you want to call it.....

Jesse-James, I was looking at the VDP setup. Its bouncing sound in to the floor, right? (it looks like it has rubber footpads; so, if those are face down to support weight, the speaker will be face-down too, right). Does look like a pretty sweat setup.
I just bought one of those Bestop trunks. I may send it back and get your setup - the VDP gear + the top cover. Or I might just keep the Bestop trunk and just put a powered 8" bazooka (don't think they make the marine versions 'powered,' unfortunately) in there and see if that rounds things out
Me, I'm kind of looking for strong bass + security + no change to my center console - both of the above seem to offer this at various prices.
Edit: They do actually make the Marine Bazooka in powered versions; but these get pricey - an eight inch powered Bazooka Marine runs around $400.

Yes, it's a down firing enclosure. That's the best way to go in a convertible. this spring i will be using dynomat on the interior and going over that with bedliner. That should help too.

I tested a Passive 6.5" and a 8" Bazooka and they both sounded alright in the parking lot. If you have an amp already set up you can usually have a sales person walk one to your vehicle to test it.

I've had a few subs in my jeep used to have a real nice 12" infinity kappa perfect powered by a kicker amp zr240 i think but it got stolen then i got a 10 inch kicker comp vr and some mtx thunder amp, but the amp got fried when my old man got my jeep stuck in the lake.
My advice is a 6x9 soundbar with some good 3 way speakers i've have mine in for a while now and it gets super lound and great sound and bass, good locations for the speakers too as they are safer up their and not likely to get stolen. Problem is the 6x9 soundbar is difficult to find now for some reason

i guess they used to be available form a company called edgeauto anyways i highly reccomend the soundbar

I know the Kappa Perfect series is pretty great. That's a tough break. Yeah, I could see doing a soundbar - thieves can't tell what speakers you are running in it and the bar itself isn't that saleable unless they try to move it on Ebay/Craigslist...then you are like "hey that's my soundbar," then to seller, "where are you at?" and then,"I am actually pretty close to there, could I just pick it up from you?"
