Title: Engine Woes
Post by: pyfighter2000 on December 01, 2006, 08:08:58 PM
So lately my jeeps been acting kinda funny. When accelerating in any gear right around 2000 rpm to maybe 2500 rpm the jeep "surges" or actually loses power intermittently very quickly. I would say Stuttering. Its as if you tap the gas quickly how it will jump up and down. Only does this between those rpms and really only does it if you are accelerating.   You cannot actually see the rpms go up or down.  Checked the spark plugs and wires and nothing wrong there. If any ones got some ideas that would be great.  I am so lost

Fighter

and uh 2.5l with 5 sp manual.

Have you checked your cat.  I haven't had the problem but reading other posts this seems to be an occurance with a bad cat.  The other thing that might be at fault is the exhaust manifold but I understand you can tell at idle if this is going.

It sounds like the problem I had, I did a tune up even tho it didn't look like the problem.... but it fixed it.

Well, my YJ used to have a problem with the engine misfiring while there was a slight load.  You'd have to be holding the RPM's pretty steady at around 2700 rpm's for it to hickup.  When I upgraded to the Jacobs Omni-Pak, I still had a hickup on occasion.  I haven't had the problem since I upgraded all of it with the PD setup although I don't lug the jeep at 2700RPM's anymore either.

I have the same problem with my 01 TJ.  I replaced the plugs/wires and the problem is stil there.   Fuel filter?   Cat?

I replaced the cat last year.  I think ill try cleaning out the throttle body and see what that does since my jeep wont be moving for a while....
