i want to know what is involved in this process, is it smart to do , or is it not worth it, i am new to jeep stuff
-
The smarter option, and cheaper, would be to sell your 97 and buy one with a 4.0L.
-
but that would be no fun. i would say make it a 350 or a 360. ive seen a v10 in them befor lol.

That is a pretty tough question to answer. There is more to it than just yanking out the 4 cyl and dropping in the 6. Personally, unless I had the entire donor vehicle I could get parts from I doubt I'd do it. I'd sell the Jeep and buy one with the 6 cyl. Do some shopping and you might be able to do it with little or no extra cash outlay.
A V8 swap is much more interesting and will be a huge contrast to the 4 cyl. I'm thinking about a Hemi myself. :)

what is involved in swapping a 2.5L to a 4.0L in a 97wrangle
Why would you want to do that?!! :yikes:
I thing it would be cheaper and more fun to let the guy with the 4.0 laugh at you and get stuck as your lil 2.5L floats by him as you laugh, because your lighter (depending on how you built your jeep).

I did the swap in the spring because I did not want v8 power. I had a complete donor vehicle which made it easier, but here is a summary of the major things
1. Motor mounts have to be cut off and new ones welded for th six
2. Front DS lengthened
3. Rear DS shortened
4. Exhaust has to be redone in front of the cat
5. The complete computer and wiring harness has to be changed in the engine
6. Radiators do not have to be changed
Thats about all. There are a ton of links in the web outlining the swap. The most work are the motor mounts and the electrical system. I am running 33s and 4.10s with the 4.0 and I love it as a daily driver and works great offroad as well.

well if your goin to get a hemi go all out with a fully race ready blown 540cid :D 900hp that would make alittle more power then that 4 banger could ever make lol. j/k way to much power even for me. a 350 or a 360 would be a good swop but if your intrested in a 4.0l stroke it befor your put it in make it a 4.7l WWW.hesco.us has all the stuff you need good luck and keep us posted.

My plan is the Stroker option in front of a NV3550... Hope to get busy in the spring, before another Iraq trip comes up.

It has to be the same year or newer here in California anyway. For their smog laws. Then what black yj wrote I suppose. I thought about the V-8 would have alot more power. A small block chevy or ford motor would not be too much hassle i suppose. It would just be a longer project to concieve, but it would be a sleeper Jeep for sure, and not weigh too much more than the six. There is really only about 100 lbs difference between the six and the four I heard. I could be wrong though.

the 4l ways 175 pounds more than the 2.5l.. the 4l is heavier than alot of v8s so going v8 could / wold save weight.
