Title: 2.5L Turbo
Post by: Tee on December 08, 2006, 12:13:16 PM
Has anybody here looked into this?   Only $7.00  I might get it for that price just to see what it entails.

I'd love to turbo my jeep, but that looks like a horrible place to put one. A glowing red hot turbocharger less than a foot away from your battery and altornator :?  At least he covered the alt. up with something to protect it.... also the price range is doubtful unless you have access to the parts already or have them laying around. I know I never find turbo's in the yards around here.

dont like it. too close to the battery. too much exaust tubing pefor the turbo (more spull up time) a really hot exaust manafold nest to my altonater. no thanks there need to be alot more shelding for some of the vital parts in this set up. but over all not a bad idea. ive seen this done on the 4.0l 505 performance makse a kit for them. thats my input lets hear the others
Title: 2.5L Turbo
Post by: Tee on December 12, 2006, 11:21:51 AM
Its defenitly a budget driven project.

I think a modified header with the turbo on that side would be cleaner/less tubing etc.  But the price would go up.

PVC for the plumbing to and from the intercooler didn't sit well with me.  But again, alum tubing and boots similar to whats on my Cummins would add to the price.

Overall I think he did a good job on a tight budget.

Its definately a complete budget set-up. I'd run steel braided oil lines, and atleast carbon steel charge pipes (pvc would work for what we need most likely, but like tee said it doesnt sit well with me either). I also do not recommend anyone doing the map trick, its probably getting old hearing me preach about Megasquirt, but i think its a good investment for anyone looking into forced induction. (i guess i should get around to a little write-up on it, finals are this week so maybe over my break)

Wrangler387,
why don't u like the "map trick"?
Title: 2.5L Turbo
Post by: wrangler387 on December 14, 2006, 07:04:29 PM
1. It moves you along bins already preset in your ecu (last i checked the stock ecu isn't programmed for a turbocharged motor)
2. It isn't programmable from my understanding, as in you increase or decrease the input across the entire table. Not just the specific RPM/MAP signals that need more or less fuel.
3. Along with moving along the fuel bins, you are also moving yourself along the timing bins also.

Megasquirt isn't very expensive and it allows you to have complete control over fuel, and also ignition if you set-up the vehicle for it. Not to mention it can be set-up to trigger water/alchy set-ups, it can be used as an electronic boost controller, it has a lot of nice features that would prove helpfull with turbocharged vehicles.

I wouldn't mind a copy of it if you still have the PDF.  I was getting ready to order one from 505 performance soon anyways, but will take a look to see if it could save some change.  505 performance was open to a group buy if any one is interested, we could save big bucks buying all together.  I told him I had (3) to do and he said 2,500 each and would come help install.  so if we were in the same area???  Please send PDF to john@thecaissoncompany.com
