How many miles have you got from your 4cyl! I have a long commute, and hope to get many miles out of this engine.
-
Runs like a champ @ 108,000 miles. Just slow
-
just broke 180,000 and still goin
-
my 2.5 around 180,000.. still runs..... has some oil leaking problems.. but thats to be expected.
but it did have a valve job a few years ago before i got it.
-
100000k
-
Close to 140k on mine. I started using full synthetic oil when I bought my YJ at about 65,000 miles. Provided your gaskets are in good shape, full synthetic is usually a good move to help engine life. But, it will get dirty, so you want to change it - most people go from 5,000 to 15,000 miles between changes with synthetic versus the traditional 3000 miles on more breakdown-prone petroleum-based oils.
Think a test was done on a stock BMW sedan in which they ran the car in a clean garage on a Dyno continuously for 1 million miles - was done using full synthetic oil and once the car hit a million on the dyno, testers pulled apart the engine and no internal engine wear was seen.

My 90 rolled over 200,000 on the way home from picking it up, it now has about 210,000. It has a little blowby and a leak or two but still runs great.
-
105,000
-
92k
-
112,000 no leaks or rust looking and running great
-
My 94 has 230,000 miles with no leaks or any problems at all.
-
My '98 is sitting with 105,000 miles. Runs great. A little rust on the back corners, but hey; this is about how she runs right?
-
135k
-
just rebuilt my 2.5 at 117830 broke a piston now she is runnin strong
-
115000 on mine and she blew up but who knows how it was treated before i got it.1200 on new one running nice and strong
-
For those that have replaced a motor, what was the cost? Purchase price of rebuilt motor, and labor for install?
-
I got 69k on my 97 TJ, runs great but starts hard, not sure why.
-
84k, runs great but broke an exhaust manifold stud.
-
which stud broke, that is one fun job to do if its the rear most one.
-
It's the rearmost, seems it's the one everybody mentions. I've been putting off doing it but should get to it soon.
-
yea i was fortunate not to have that one break, my front most stud broke. that was a bitch too tho good luck.

135,000 and doing fine. I had to do the rear most stud. It was'nt that bad fella's ! Just use a drill extension cable and do it in 5/16 fine thread with the manifold in place. Bout two hours going slow..... I hope to get 150,000 before pulling the engine. I thought about getting another engine and working onit in my spare time.

So how are these manifold bolts breaking? Is it something we ought worry about, or is there some weird extenuating circumstances?

2.5 exhaust manifolds give out between 60 and 100,000 miles with a nice crack on the inside towards the head. R&R with a header.
Use pb nut buster prior to any attempts at taking one of the head bolts off, or any nut bolt combo that has been sitting awhile. I am old enough to know that experience is a mans best friend. I have had my share of breaks and sich.
Second thought, no pb nut buster. :P
-
163k miles. some blow by. Second set of headers on. Otherwise still going strong.
-
100,300
Replaced:
Alternator twice
Battery once
battery cables once
Rebuilt AX-5 twice, swapped in NV3550 (Basically on my third transmission)
Radiator is leaking
Thermostat once
Fan clutch once
Broken exhaust stud
The engine itself still has good pep and great oil pressure. No rust on the Jeep. Paint is still great. I expect it to last another 4 years at the minimum before it hints at any engine malfunction.

Am wondering whether with newer engine oils, synthetics etc. people are going to tend to get longer life out of their engines: average 100-150k becomes maybe 200-300k.
Course, though the engine works ok, the rest of the vehicle is going to deteriorate. I'm painting mine, because the paint is basically shot at 140k - I haven't really helped along the paint too much, though

147K on my 95. bought new, and mobile1
-
I have 131, 654K on my 95, and it still runs like a champ.
