Post by: lanulos89 on December 17, 2006, 12:38:38 PM
yea so finally buttoning up my header/down pipe issue, i was looking around under neath my jeep and noticed that the bottom is covered in oil.  my leafsprings are covered, starter etc.  my oil pan is rotting away, i kno i gotta fix that but its not leaking yet.  i heard a rumor from my teacher at school that the rear main seals are notorious for going in the 2.5l is that true?  if so i may have a new winter time projects ahead of me...

It happens but it's not that common.

If it was the rear main seal your clutch would slip (if you got one), and it would drip from the bellhousing when parked usually. Pinion seals go bad, front main seals go bad, i had mine done six months ago, oil pan gaskets go bad ( I bent my oil pan).

Mine had a similar issue.  It was the Valve Cover.  It was loose.  New gasket and tighten it up.  Oil stopped dripping.
