Title: Another 19lb injector question
Post by: jazzplr on January 12, 2007, 08:30:33 PM
Ok, so I got a set of 8 injectors of eBay a couple of weeks ago and just got around to installing them.  My question is on the bottom of the injectors do the caps need to be on them?  Four of the eight had cracked caps so I tought I was in luck with the four remaining.  When I compared the old injectors with the new ones, it looked like there were no caps on the old ones.  I was able to remove the O-rings by just rolling them off.  So, should I use the ones with the caps still intact or use the ones that were cracked and since removed?

You will want to read this thread:

I highly recommend replacing the seals and caps.  It's always nice not to have the engine catch on fire.

Already read the thread twice.  My question is whether you need the caps on.  The old injectors don't seem to have as large a cap, if any.

If I remember correctly the caps stay on. I recommend rebuilding the injectors completely before installing them.

Thanks.  I went ahead and installed them this morning without caps and made sure there were no leaks under pressure.  I ran them in my engine for about twenty minutes and found them to make my engine run too rich.  I ended up changing them back to the originals.  I did notice a smoother idle and better acceleration but I didn't want to deal with the smell of the engine running rich, especially upon a cold startup.

The stock Denso injectors have caps.  They are metal and pressed on.  You can see them in the pictures in that thread.

You will want to reset the PCM.

Crap, so I should have left them in and reset the computer?

Yup, did you disconnect the battery's negative terminal while you were installing the injectors? All the info for the reset are in the original thread.
