Title: Axle plugs
Post by: Airedale on January 28, 2007, 01:19:47 PM
I am missing one of my front axle plugs and want to find one. I suspect I have a stock one remaining. The remaining one seems to be one that opens, slips over the axle, and is held in place by a screw.

I have looked at Quadratec and Whitney and only found $100+ ones that look like there is a bunch of labor to install.

Anyone no where I can purchase replacements?

The pic is of the remaining axle plug. It's the white piece.
Thanks,
Dave

I really don't think they do anything. What they basically do is cover the difference between the axle tube and the axle itself. They are not press fit. If you drive through water, they will limit the amount of water getting into the tube. This helps keep the grit out also. This lengthens the life of the axle seal in the diff housing. If you sit in the water, water will penetrate into the axle tube.

I wouldn't worry about it too much.
