Title: Got some offroad lights today...
Post by: JeepManMarc on February 07, 2007, 03:02:08 PM
Today I purchased a set of Hella offroad lights, I am hoping they perform decent.  I have been told this is a very good brand and that they are pretty bright.  Anyone else have these?

Hey I had some of these on my Cherokee. They are brighter then your high beams. They work well for the price. I only had one issue. They heat up. So if you are going threw a water hole  make sure you turn them off. If you don't they will crack on the out side lens. Other then that they work great.  ;)

Not sure if that's a good place to put them. I mean, next to the hook. Any side pull with a strap, could they be hit? Hard to tell in a frontal pic.

Where do you have the switch? Did it come with a relay?

The hooks are further forward than the lights, but I suppose it is possible to snag one if not carefull...   I think they are in the factory mounting holes for the jeeps that come with them though...

They didnt come with a relay, I still need to get one, it was 8 degrees out today and I was working in my driveway, I gave up after mounting them, Ill hook them up tomorrow.  I am still unsure where to mount the switch however.

Are these lights that will last awhile, I mean they are a good brand, better than factory ones?

Im suprised no one has KC's here. There hella bright but cheeper! I sorta like my lights on my windshield in the corner. You can use them as mini spotlights. And the KC wiring package comes with relays 2.

KC's are cheap but they also exclude a lot of important stuff.  A plug-n-play harness is really nice.  I run PIAA's on my Jeep.

The one consideration to make when mounting lists on the bumpers is to make the lights sit far enough back do they don't become the bumper.

I got some, what I did was go to walmart and bought and apc wireless fog light kit for about $17. It was very easy to do and comes with a keychain remote, looks like a simple keyless entry keychain. I was not sure how to wire everything up conventionally, and this was an easy way for me. It's worked perfectly for nearly two years.

Hmm, that'll teach me not to read the first post! Thanks for pointing it out. :twofingers:  :wall:  Most of the lights I've seen come with a full harness. That is, unless you buy them independently.  KC's used to be the lights everyone would get in the 80's but there are better lights.

In any case, get a relay in there unless you like flames.  Not to good kind but the bad kind.

I've got Hella 500 driving lights mounted in the same place, nice bright light, but spotty, as in pencil beam, so in the canyons of Borrego they tend to look like two nice white spots on the canyon walls. The big differrence came when I switched to 100 watt bulbs, yowza, dem are sum brite lights now bubba. I like them, on long straights they are phenomenal. On the last run I was in the front and everyone behind me wanted to know what kind of lights I was running. they are incredibly bright with the bigger bulbs.
