Title: cracked rear window/soft top
Post by: dexetr30 on February 14, 2007, 05:43:47 PM
It's so damn cold here that my rear window cracked on my soft top today. :'( Now tomorrow I have to call and see if somehow my insurance will cover it, which I doubt they will. If not, it's duct tape until I can afford a new window. :brick:

Did you try clearing the ice off the window and tear it?

Clear packing tape on both sides should help fix it.  If you need to get that one window fixed you coyuld try a upholstery/soft top shop and have them sew in a new window.  BTW: they should also be able to fix and broken zippers if you have any.

When I bought my TJ, it had the rear side window and the driver's door window torn. Take some clear HD tape and apply it to both sides. You'll need another hand to help keep the window at normal spacing so when you apply the tape, you won't push and separate the window crack. My windows stayed that way for over a year till I got another top and door windows. The tape I used was clear and had fiber support. It was real sticky. Make sure you clean the tape area prior to applying it.

I can't understand why they only pay us peanuts to work anymore, and all of the CEO's get millions of bucks. It's bizarre.

Anyway, I got a window I think. I bought a tinted one last year and I got my old one, here in cali. Tj right?

Nope, I went out to walk the dogs and noticed it was cracked. Not sure what happened but it sucks. Good news is that my insurance is going to cover it. I just need to take it to a dealership and get an estimate. I'm going to wipe the salt off of it today and hit it with some packing tape until I can get it replaced.

Good news! The insurance company is giving me a good deal. So... I'm ordering a set of three tinted rear windows from q-tec. Only thing is that q-tec only offers windows for 97-00. Are these windows the same for my 02? I'd think they were the same but you never know. Figured I'd better ask before ordering.
