My Jeep has been doing some weird stuff lately. Once ans a while it will just sputter and high idle or sputter and stall. It has stalled when driving a few times too. Crank and crank. Wait a while and it will fire right up fine.. Over the weekend I installed the FirePower Performance Ignition. Fired up great and smooth. But it's still doing it. I can hear the fuel pump comming on. I am going to try fuel filter tomorrow. After that, im thinking pump. QUESTION : Do i replace the internal with another, or go with a outboard frame mounted pump ? Or is it something else ?
-
The fuel filter isn't in/on the tank on a YJ. On the YJ the fuel filter is on the frame just in front of the dr. rear tire. Besure to release the pressure in the fuel line through the schrader valve on the fuel rail. If you don't you risk getting sprayed with gas. BTDT :'(

I know where the fuel filter is. Any ideas on my problem ?

If you're sure it's the pump, you have two options. Disconnect the OE pump and run an inline or replace the OE pump/sender. I've seen it done both ways.

It's not the pump. I hooked up my fuel pressure guage to the rail, and it has decent pressure. The sputtering doesnt effect the pressure. I ordered a cam/pickup coil/ stator to try that. After that, im lost.

Have you tried recovering any CEL codes? That probably the first thing to do before spending any money on parts. Looking back at the original post I might suspect the CPS. Might try by disconnecting it and seeing if there is a change. You might also try the TPS.

Could be a intermittent vacuum leak... have you check the vacuum lines?

I do nto have a cel. I have a custom dash, and i dont know the wire color of the cel so i could hook it back up. If i unplug the cam pos sens, it wont start at all.. Anyone know the color of the cel wire ?
