I crawled up under my jeep the other day while taking out my rear end to put the 44 under it and i hit the exhaust on accident. Now i'm no expert, but i'll be damned i can move the whole thing by the tailpipe....... the cat is sitting on my skid plate and the muffler is also close as hell. I went to where it attaches to the manifold and its loose. Why did it do this AGAIN. I've had to tighten it up so many times. Why am i having this problem and have yall had this before? It's a 97 btw.
I'm thinking of putting a new exhaust on it eventually. Pacesetter header, hiflo cat (Suggest a brand), and then a Flowmaster 40 with either a turndown after it or a tailpipe. Does this sound good or should i do something else.

I have a 97 and when I got it the exhaust was hanging on with bailing wire, I just had a muffler shop weld every thing back up cost $20.
-
What broke? The compression fitting between the down pople and the manifold?
-
I think everythings hung right but im not sure. I tried to take pictures but i could get any good ones.

Try using a med duty (blue) lock tight on the threads, it should hold it and not be to hard to remove the nuts later. As for the cat, stay with the factory. There is not enough difference between it and the aftermarket brands to notice ... except for the noise. I put on a dynaflo and wished I had the original back.

Ya well i figure if im going to replace it might as well upgrade it. Can i put the whole exhaust on without welding it? I dont have a welder yet and id like to be able to take it apart if need be.

Sorry guys but loctite doesn't work on exhaust manifold studs. It doesn't hold when over300-400 degrees.
You can try steel locking nuts on the studs not the nyloc ones or try double nutting. Lockwashers don't work real well on exhaust pipe flanges either they loose their spring and stop biting into the metal

yea you can w/o welding, just good luck separating the cat from the down pipe and the muffler, hope you have a nice hot torch :brick:

Thats why i'd just replace it all at once.

Yep.. Mine came with a down pipe and new cat too.. Its a Direct Fit Replacement From Magnaflow.. Magnaflow Part # 23227 (TJ 97-99) or 23226 (TJ 00-02?) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=003&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&viewitem=&item=130088563948&rd=1,1 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=003&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&viewitem=&item=130088563948&rd=1,1)

I actually bought a Hiflo cat today for $20 whenever i went to buy the v8 GC coils for my jeep. He offered it to me so i figured might as well.
