1999 2.5L, 60K miles
Changed plug wires, cap, and rotor last Friday and it ran perfectly. Drove it at work 3-4 hours a night the last 4 nights with no probs....perfect.
Filled it with gas today then went home and and it sat for a few hours. Started it again to warm up the oil before change yesterday and rpms shot up to 2K. After a few minutes it dropped down to 1200-1500, and finally to hovered about 1200. Drove it around 3-4 hours last night and idle wouldnt come down. During the last hour or so, it started missing/sputtering, almost as if there was water in the fuel or something.
Still idling high and sputtering on acceleration. Any idea what the prob may be?
Thanks

I think there was a recent thread on this. Check/clean IAC motor, make sure the throttle flap is closing properly and look for detached/damaged vacuum lines.

When I changed the cap/rotor & wires, I also sprayed/cleaned out the TB very well with carb cleaner. Throttle flap is closing, dont see any vacuum leaks...
Will a bad TPS cause high idle and sputtering during acceleration?

in the workbench section i have a 3 page long post "hic up" about the same problem, i have yet to find the solution but if i do, i bet i cld be a millionaire. i did complete tune up wires rotor plugs cap even coil, i pretty much rulled out the ignition, now im up to eiuther the cps or fuel injectors.

wow
I mean it was fine one minute, then the next start up it idled high. No low idle prob, only idles high, and sputters during acceleration.
Last week I went wheeling where a lot of water was involved, but all of the tune up has been done after that, and there were no probs right after that. Could I have gotten something wet when I cleaned it? Quite a bit of water got on and around the dash area...??

Check your IAC & TPS, you may have gotten gunk in them when you used the carb cleaner, just a thought!!

mine sputters every now and then too.
