I'm about at my wits end on this one. Here's the story. I have a 1989 yj with a 94 2.5L with about 20k on it. I put on the Avenger Supercharger. Ran ok. I put in the Split Second Air/Fuel/Timing FTC1 computer with a bas map to get me going. Ran better. I took the jeep to a performance shop to tune it on the dyno. Ran GREAT. About a month later, it started getting harder to start. Longer crank times and a rougher, sputtering idle. Still ran good under load. Then it got worse, it would stall going around corners at idle, and would sputter, high idle and stall at a standstill.
After it would stall, i would have to wait about 5 min, then it would restart, otherwise if i didnt wait it would just crank.
So i started throwing parts at it. Performance Dist. Firepower kit ( cap, coil, rotor, plugs, wires ) Better idle but still stall. Then i found the crank sensor had melted to the downpipe. Replaced. Still problems. It doesnt stall, but it idles at 1k and under load it pops and sputters quite often... ANY IDEAS BEFORE I BURN IT ? ??

man alot of people our having problems with their 4bangers recently :'(... hope you can find the problem before it burns up.

Always kinda wondered if modifying a stock engine lowered its useful life. Maybe it's true :uhoh:
-
it's pro bably your intake somehow/where. supercharger is not my can of beer yet.

How's the fuel pressure? Pump or filter clog, maybe....
Vacumn line went(melted) along with the crank sensor?
Check the o2 sensor as well. If it's fried, your computer is getting faulty info for setting the fuel air mix.
:puzzled: :puzzled:
I know, I'm just thowing things out here... Maybe one might get you going in the right direction.

Take it to the dealer to run a diagnostic on it.

Hmmm, at idle you should be running little to no boost so that shouldn't be effecting anything. A high idle would lead to be look for a vacuum leak someplace OR perhaps, the engine isn't getting enough gas. Although you have a wide band O2 sensor on there right? How's the fuel pump sound? Have you checked the fuel rail pressure at the Schrader valve? Have you timed the engine?

o2 sensor and leaky intake gasket between the blower and the intake manifold. The computer couldnt make up for all the extra air being sucked in.
-
so you found the problem and fixed it. :puzzled: :beers:
-
I found the problem. Now i just need to find the time to fix it. I have to remove the whole blower to get at the stupid gasket.... :brick:
-
Cool, you found out where it was leaking. Most of the work is done then and you got all weekend to toy with it.

i was thinking about my intake gasket, i used the crappy paper gasket when i did my header so i wouldnt be surprised at all. ill chekc on that when the snow and ice stops and it gets alittle warmer out
