Title: trac bar removal
Post by: alandchris on March 31, 2007, 08:30:29 PM
95 YJ -

putting the lift kit in - on jack stands - first direction says to take the lower nut/bolt off the trac bar.

trac bar won't come off- PB'd the hell out of the nut on the left side - nut came off - the bolt won't come thru - I hammered the PI$$ out of it - is there a trick to this - or am I just experiencing "rust seizure".  Will torching it help any.  AL

Are you planning on reinstalling a trac bar?

I couldn't get any of the bolts to move on mine, just cut the brackets right off the frame as well and cutting the axle mounts.  But that's not a good option if you are planning on running trac bars ;)

keeping it for now
i guess i'll try to loosen the right side to give a little more play and then use my 5 lb hammer and take a few cracks at that bolt on the left side

You could also try to use a cutting wheel or sawzall to cut the bolt on each side of the trac bar.   Chances are that the bolt is seized in the trac bar bushing and only a whole lot of heat will get it loose.

I'm no old hand but on my long gone 94 I had to take both bolts out and hammer while moving or wiggling it on the frame end.

hope that helps

I cut the bolt head as well, then I had to torch the bushing in order to punch it through.
