The picture better not be what's in the box...

I believe the ripper shifter and the short-throw shifter are two different things. Isn't the ripper shifter for auto trannies?
I've got the B&M short-throw in mine, but no box as I bought it off ebay.
Why not ask the seller for a picture of the actual ITEM

So you bought a short shifter from an import shop? At minimum, I'd get a B&M Parts #. Honestly, I'd buy it from a 4x4shop if you can't get an honest answer. I believe Qtech sells them for $150.
-
no of course i didnt buy it lol. but its an ebay store.

i found an ebay store that sells the B&M shifter for $127.88 shipped. click to view (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/B-M-Jeep-Wrangler-Cherokee-Short-Sport-Shifter-45046_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33736QQitemZ7978509593QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V#ebayphotohosting)

That's the right one.

If you get one let us know what you think. I used to think that a short-throw shifter would be a waste in a Jeep until I drove a Wrangler with the new MB 6-speed. It's not much shorter but it made driving more pleasurable. So I think any inprovement on the AX-5 would be great. Especialy concidering how much we 4bangers have to shift.
-
I have a short throw on mine, but I got it back when you had to modify the AX-15's shifter. It's nice, and I think it helps quite a bit. The gears pretty much just fall into place, and it become almost impossible to miss a gear. It's mostly just a comfort upgrade, but it does help when you need fast shifts, like in the sand.
-
I have one on mine that is the AX5 version . It makes the distance a lot shorter and engauges smoother. I wish I could tell you more but my tranny is having problems and I have to pull it apart and make sure the shifter is not causing the problem.
-
Hey Yj you check out your tranny yet?
-
Yes, somewhat. It is definetely part of the shifter that is causing some of the trouble. I'm not saying that the shifter is a bad idea, I have to find out why it is causing problems. I'm trying to find the old shifter assembly to compare to the bm so i can tell if I got one that was machined wrong or something. It is causing my gears to lock up and leave me in neutral. I has to not be connecting with the shft rail propely or something. Like I said though I have to find the stock shifter to compare to because I installed it while building the engine so I'm not sure if I threw it away or not. While the engine is off, You can tell that the throw is much shorter and seems to engage more precisely than the stock one did. I would say it's a good investment and I either got a bad one or something wasn't lined up right when installed. I let you know more when I compare them and can give a solid answer.

I read some where they claimed 40% reduction in force needed to shift.
Seam to be a BOld claim but If it help the Old tranny I am game for my Next mod. So I ordered the One Off the Link Jeepfourlow posted was Killer price.
127.88 shipped not bad 4wd.com as them for 159.99 +shipping.
so you would save alot. I will be doing mine next weekend so If you need me to check out the stocker measurements, Let me now?

I would suggest on Not getting the B&M ripper shifter. I just got it last week for my 99 TJ with the AX-5. This thing is not worth the money.
The bolts I got only show about 3-5 threads once you put them through and one side of the spacer has a beveled edge that has no purpose in my application. IF you tighten down the bolts on the beveled edge too far they pull out the other bolts. Also, the beveled edge does not allow a proper seal for the shifter. I called b&m and they told me to run a bead of RTV and I "should be fine".
Finally the shifter is about 2 inches shorter than stock! I have to bend forward to shift. It does have a shorter throw but it is very uncomfortable and I am going to tap a piece of aluminum to make a extension.
my .02 is to stay away from b&m.
-
You are right about the Bolts. They where 45mm long, I went to the hardware store and bought 4, 60mm long and had 3 threads showing under the housing.
The cut you are talking about Does serve a purpose in which it’s designed for. The Ax5 with stock transfer case & shifter. The Transfer case shifter mounting bracket fits perfectly in it and supports the housing from tiling as you stated. If you are not using this bracket than other style may have been a better choice.
Some ultra black sealant and not a leak anywhere.
AS for fit I must be an Ape with long arms Mine fit me great. :)
-
hey oilsmoke did you ever install it?
-
Yes I installed saturday morning. Appox 2 hours but I clean the guts out of the shifter housing and made 2 trip to the hardware store.
Personal I think it great. I wrote alittle review in the other forum.
