Title: locker problems
Post by: jcsanders79 on May 19, 2007, 10:37:14 AM
I had an Aussie Locker isntalled in my D44 and it pops when I corner.  I know that the front does this but my D35 did not pop and I don't think it should in the rear, wouldn't that indicate that its not locking up?  Any ideas on what would be causing this.

Does the Auzzie give instructions on how to test it?

You'll have to jack up the rear and have two people.  What you do is have one person hold the other tire in place.  Then you rock your tire 1/8-1/4 ways backwards then rotate it forwards.  This should unlock the side.  You will want to check both sides and in both directions. (rock forwards then rotate backwards...)  If the locker is working properly, this should work.

You may have too much distance between the couplers, too much gap around the cross shaft will cause those symptoms.  Check the gap in the middle with a mic and confirm with the manufacturer.

I am almost positive that the locker is not working properly because of gapping issues.  I think that it is around the cross shaft, is this fixed with thrust washers, a new cross shaft, or both.  I jacked the rear end up and I can spin either wheel like it was on the set of price is right without holding the other. The locker seams to torque quit a bit when I slowly spun a wheel, I could move the tire almost an inch befor the locker caused the gear to move.

Find out what the gap is supposed to be, and correct with thrust washers behind the side gears.
