Not quite the kick in the pants I was expecting but still pretty good. ??? Maybe it will pick up as I put a few miles on it. Definitely smoother running on the mid to top end. Still a slouch on steep, long hills but not as bad as it was. I can't help but think that the auto trans is a big part of that. I also changed the cap and rotor today and tomorrow my Autolite XP plugs should be in.

I have the auto and a stage I it took it a few miles to really kick in. Make sure you reset the computer and then let it idle for about five to ten minutes.

U should also post after you have gone through a full tank of gas with the gas mileage changes, if any ;)

Update... I replaced the plugs today. Previous owner had Autolite platinums in it :yikes: and the dealership never changed them. So, they had been in there since I bought it last July. I replaced the cap and roter also, since they were both pretty shot. Reset the computer again after I replaced the plugs, cap and roter. Then I installed the 4.0l air box. The tube ended up about 4'' short because the throttle body is located closer to the air box on 4.0's. To fix that I cut the tube in the middle and slid in a piece of tight fitting exhaust pipe. Looks cheesy but it worked very well and it's a nice tight connection. Installed a new K&N and reconnected the battery. I started it up and took it for a long mountain ride and the difference was much more pronounced than when I first installed the chip. The problem was the crappy plugs and the very short air tube. I figure both of these things were counteracting the chips full capabilities. Also, the whistle from the 4.0 throttle body disappeared when I installed the 6 cylinder air box and tube.
So, in the end the chip was a GREAT improvement as were the other things I added and replaced today. I give the chip two thumbs up. :thumbsup:

When i first put my jet stage 1 chip in our jeep i was amazed at the difference in power. It already had an arraid intake so the next day we added a throttle body spacer and My brother and I finished the e-fan install today. It has so much more power now and will really rev alot faster. Tomorrow i am getting the Dynomax exhaust put on and then in the near future i am going to get the performance distributors tune up kit to see if it helps. But the Chip is awsome i say for the 4 Cyl. its a must.

A friend of mine with a Liberty (Cherokee here in Greece) 2.4L 4banger was very satisfied with the jet chip stage 1 not only with power gain but also with mileage increase.
He actually forced me to buy one for my Cherokee 2.5L and I'm waiting for it this month.

I've got a stage 1 chip to put in my '01 TJ this weekend. It had an Airaid intake and throttle body spacer when I bought it, and last month I installed a Banks cat back exhaust (with help from this forum :thumb: I also have a Banks torque tube header to install when I get to it.

Anyone have any issues installing the Stage 1 chip? I put mine in and couldn't get my Jeep to start. It would crank, but start. I reset the ECM, checked the chip for any bent pins (none bent) and it still wouldn't start. I took the chip out and it started fine and drove like normal. Has anyone had similar issues and what'd you do to fix it?

I installed my stage1 chip yesterday and have had no problems so far. You might check to make sure it is fully seated into the ECM and also that the plug is seated fully onto the chip as well. Also verify you received the correct chip. The model number should be 90017.
A question I have for those of you with the chip is... has anyone rigged a new "dust cover" for the ECM connectors? I'm wondering if it will be okay or not having the plugs exposed now that the chip is there and the cover cannot fit.

The chip I have is the 90017, the chip was fully seated in the ECM, and the plug was fully seated in the chip. I checked it a couple of times to make sure everything was seated properly. I got in touch with Jet technical service and they said the chip might be faulty. I have to send it back and pending an evaluation, they'll send another one to me. I'll see how that goes.

The chip I have is the 90017, the chip was fully seated in the ECM, and the plug was fully seated in the chip. I checked it a couple of times to make sure everything was seated properly. 90017 is the correct chip. They can be a pain in the @$$ to seat properly. They have locking clips top and bottom. My bottom clip wasn't locked in on the bottom at first and it ran like crap. Hopefully it is a bad chip and they replace it for you. Good luck. ;)

I had the Jet Stage II on mine and I absolutely hated it. I didn't feel any difference in power at all. I will say that it ran a little smoother in the top end, but that's it. I ended up selling it for $75. The guy that bought it loved it to death, but he also had an auto tanny. I guess that's really where they shine, I don't know.

Two days now with the jetchip stage1. First impressions are good. Throttle response is smoother and gain in power is somewhere there. I gain almost 1lt/100km in consumption in mixed conditions. The only bad thing is the installation in a Cherokee because it too close (in touch actually) to the air filter box and you have to be very careful when you need to change filter.

The third day the disaster came
Check engine lit and the car had obvious problems with some sensors. The OBD showed air intake manifold pressure regulator voltage.
Rest the check engine, removed the jetchip and everything is fine but...
What the ... happened? Why after 3 days and almost 200km in different driving conditions a problem like this appeared?
BTW there was no rain and no water in the engine to justify short circuit.

I had something similar happen to me. I took the chip out and cleaned all the connection on the ecm, chip and plug with electronic contact cleaner. I plugged it back in and made sure it was seated properly (it wasn't the first time) and reset the ecm. I haven't had any troubles since then.

side note: OBDII was required on all model year 1997 vehicles. Since the Cherokee continued to 2001, it had to fulfill these DOT/EPA requirements.

yes the model is correct
yes the ECU was reset
the 2.5L engine is the same as in wrangler TJ (my cherokee is '99 model sold in Europe)
Still my question is why the check engine lit after 3 days and 200km and not from the beginning if something was wrong with it?

My started doing it on the 2nd day. It wouldn't do it until the engine bay heated up and I was hitting bumps in the road.
