Title: Anything to it?
Post by: Dare2BSquare on September 03, 2007, 07:10:42 PM
Any of you try side gapping your spark plugs. Does it do anything worth messing with?

Haven't done it but have heard it works.  Since plugs are pretty cheap it seems worth a shot.

I had to look it up.   It seems worth a shot.  Spark plugs are cheap.  I probably won't bother since I'm already running .030" over stock.  According to what I read you would gap to .025" or .010" under the stock gap.

I had to look it up too. Here's a decent link....

Side Gapping (http://performanceunlimited.com/documents/plugsidegapping.html)

I'm about to change plugs so I think I'll do this and report back.

Let me know how taht goes...  I may do the same on my next saprkplug change!  And thanks for the link; I also would have had to look that one up!

This sounds similar to spark plug indexing, except with indexing you don't have to worry about ruining a good plug and a set of indexing rings can last a long time.

Indexing can take some time (trial and error) to get all four plugs lined up in the right position, but I noticed a little crisper acceleration.

Will do, I have the plugs and I'll be cutting them tonight at work. Probably put them in late this week.

Found that same site, looks pretty easy to side gap them. Thought of the same thing on the indexing of the plugs, didn't know they had rings for that though. Thanks for the tip, I'm at 65k miles, so plan to try both of these ideas out!!

Wow, never heard of doing that. Makes sense I guess. I'll be following this thread to see how it goes.

Well, they've been in for a few weeks and I have noticed nothing.

Any updates on how this has worked for anyone running them?  I'm going to be getting new plugs before too long and was wondering if this was worth doing.
