I am getting ready to change all the fluids in the jeep and since this is the first manual tranny i have owned i am not sure how to go about changing it. Could any of you guys help a fellow 4-banger out with this process? It would be much apprechiated and i already searched i know i need to have about 4 quarts of either redline or syncromesh fluid and i know i need a fluid pump, i just need to know how to go about draining the old fluid to and adding some new. Thanks in advance.

You'll want to get a fluid pump to make life easier. The drain is at the bottom, it's a big flat hex bolt. The fill plug is on the side of the tranny. It also uses the same big flat hex bolt. Don't take the torx bolt that reads, 'Do Not Remove' out. I believe the plug is on the passenger side.

Thanks jeffy :thumb: Thats a relief, I was talking to someone who also has a 5 speed jeep over the weekend and they were telling me i was going to have to drop the whole tranny skid and support the trasnsmission with floor jack and everything so if its as simple as two hex bolts then i can get that done in no time. I think i am going to go with the GM syncromesh fluid since i can get it by the dealer close to my house, whats your opinion on the fluid?

I went with Royal Purple Max Gear in my AX-5, D44 and D30, went with their ATF for my 231. It works great! I work in Truck Shop and got a really good deal on the stuff, happy I tried it. :doggy:

Royal purple max gear huh, do they sell that at local parts stores? I might try it this weekend, still have to get fluid.
