been thinking about insulating/soundproofing the old hardtop. my plan is to get some color matched carpet and use heavy duty velcro to attach pieces fore and aft of the center roll bar. i'm hoping to cut down on a bit of road/wind/rain noise. i've noticed that recent model hardtops already come with some sort of "carpet-like" material attached. anyone got any "do-it-yerself" experience on this? cheers.

my dad put carpet on the inside of his hard top last year. he used some 3m spray on glue and it worked great. :thumb: the stuff comes in a rigular rattle can and is perfect for sticking carpet to stuff.

There use to be a product for the soft tops that insulated the soft tops also. I remember seeing it years ago in the back of JP magazine and others. Wish I could find it now.

Nice, but for $200 I would proably try and do it myself. That's pretty costly.

For my old YJ hardtop, I just cut a square of that foil lined foam wall insulation and set it on the rollbar before the top went on. The weight of the top held it in place very well. I think I used 1".
Also great for friends that think they're graffiti artists :beers:

That may have been it. Similar concept to what I remember. I agree... $200.00 is a bit too much to pay. Seems as though it's easily replicated for much less.

I'd probably go with automotive carpet and spray-on adhesive. If you use velcro, you'll probably have an issue with the liner/carpet sagging in areas. In which case it would be better to mount the carpet onto a backer board.

good idea on the backer board. i really don't muck with glue. with super-duty velcro i can at least pull it down (if i need to,...for whatever reason). thanks for the replies. i'll let you know how it turns out. cheers.
