Title: A tip for the automatic guys
Post by: Rob the plumber on November 10, 2007, 01:14:01 PM
I have a 1995 YJ with a 2.5L and an automatic. I am running 35" tires and stock 3.73 gears. Acceleration is pretty pathetic as you could imagine. Around town it is fine, but keeping up with freeway traffic can be a chore. I hooked my torque converter clutch up to a dash monted toggle switch. The TCC clutch is also controlled by the brake light switch. I found a black ground wire in the pigtail going to the brake light switch that disengages the clutch when the brakes are applied. Now when I am driving at higher speeds I can shut off the TCC and get more power out of the Jeep.
I don't think it hurts mileage much because I use much less throttle to maintain speed.

That is a pretty good tip. Even with 29's I find my TJ bogging down when the converter locks.

I'll try to snap a picture of the harness later today.
