Title: High Output Alternators

Hi,

I am searching for a High output alternator for my 89 YJ. I've been told that early YJ's (up to '90), use different alternators than later models. Anyone know what the difference is?

There's a lot more then just that.  The alternator is a Delco not a Denso.  BIG difference since they can't be mixed.

Just searching Ebay now... The guys where Jeffy bought his alternator don't have em more than 100A....

So, i have the same problem and if i'm reading jeffy's chart right I can use this 140 amp Delco-Remy CS-144 (144mm Stator) alternator,  is that right?  if so can i just bolt it on?  thanks

According to what I was able to see all of the listed Delco's should be interchangeable with each other just like how all of the Denso's are.  You might need to adjust the bushings a bit but overall they would be the same.

You could probably go to partsamerica.com and enter in your vehicle and see what comes up.  They have a crossreference chart which should point you into the higher amp alts if you look for large truck aps.

Mine's slightly different since it's not a OEM replacement.  They actually souped it up with an armature that has more wire wound around it and a new diode pack.  I think it's a Dodge 120 or a 136 case though.

Just check around on ebay for rebuilders.  The smaller shops are a good value and usually have higher rated alts then the OEM's.  Otherwise, save a few bucks and get a higher amp OEM.
