Title: Electric Fan conversion for the 2.5
Post by: vbuholzer on September 27, 2005, 11:40:07 AM
I was contemplating this mod but i haven't seen to many write ups on it. has anyone here done that and any tips about it they can share?

What i have been able to find is that the ford taurus electric fan from a early 90's 3.8 v6 should work, and possibly one from a crown vic. any advice?

Thanks!!

There are several writeup's out there.  The only concern would be to use a heavy duty relay.  Some people use the standard Bosch 30A relay but it's too small for the initial start up.  You risk burning up the relay.

i'm currently working on a writeup for my Taurus fan installation that uses a PWM controller instead of relays.  So far it's been a great mod.

I run a Taurus 2-speed fan, I run it on low through a switch rated for enough amps to handle low speed.  I've got everything I need to wire up both speeds through relays using a thermo switch to activate each speed, just need to get it hooked up.

You can get the fan from almost any 3.8L Taurus, Mercury, or Lincoln.  Crown Vic uses a mech. fan so don't bother looking there.  Don't get the 3.0L fan.
