Title: Shackel confusion
Post by: chardrc on February 01, 2008, 04:48:46 PM
ok so for Christmas my dad got me 5/8" lift boomerang shackles so my military rap springs wont hit the frame. but he didn't get front ones. so now he ordered me the front ones (conveniently for my birthday). but he got regular strait ones (i heard that boomerang shekels don't do anything for the front) but now when i went to get ready to install them tomorrow (hopefully) i noticed that the strait ones aren't as long as the back ones.  and after farther reading in the magazine it says the strait ones "don't lift vehicle".  so what should i do. get longer front shekels so they are even. if so what ones should i get since M.O.R.E. doesn't make lifted strait shackles...

the website of the maker (not where got them from but same thing) http://www.mountainoffroad.com/catalog/LubeShackle/lubeshacks.htm

Holy crap, you are a senior and should learn how to spell.

Measure your boomerang shackles from hole to hole,  you want the front shackles to be the same length.

They list plenty of lift shackles for YJ's, although $85 is insane.

These would work fine for $35

5/8" lift is nothing really.  I wouldn't even worry about it.  Measure the holes though if you want to check.  Even those that claim no lift usually have some lift.  4" eye-to-eye is stock.

the straight ones are 4" eye to eye, and the boomerangs are 5.25" eye to eye.

It's not about the lift, it's about clearance for the military wrap.

Not for the front, plenty of clearance.

I would get the same boomerang shackles for the front and install them with the bend toward the back of the jeep.  In this manner they act as an anti-kickback shackle because the center brace in the shackle prevents the shackle from inverting and leaving the spring eye back against the frame.
