alright i got the pacesetter header for my bday it didnt come with the ceramic coating so im gonna send it to www.jet-hot.com it will probably outlast anything with that anyways only problem im gonna have is install cuz it will require welding and i cant...$280 is the cheapest ive been quoted by a local exhaust shop...

the bolt-on install isn't bad, there's a few bolts that become a PITA with the header on there, and you'll have to get some special tools to tighten them. What do you have to have welded up, the downpipe to the catalytic converter? You should be able to use muffler clamps and some adapters. Or you can have it welded. Do the install yourself, then take it somewhere to be welded.

yeah the downpipe is supposed to be bolt on to the CAT but since i have a new cat, it no longer can be bolted on, i guess i could could cut of the bolt-on plate and use muffler clamps tho....thanks

For $259 you could have bought the Armor Coat metallic-ceramic finish ones.
I wouldn't weld them but that's just me. I prefer to have a clamped exhaust. I've several occasions where I've had to replace parts of it and not having to deal with welds is nice. Not to mention, if you ever have to remove something on the trail.
If your cat is a generic one then there should be enough pipe fore and aft that you can clamp it.

yeah the ceramic coated ones are garbage from what ive read from people with experience

Well ceramic coatings work. Other then that, there aren't any differences between the regular header and the Armor coated one.

for the header install soem PB Blaster to the bolts a few days ahead of time and before removal works wonders as well as a 9/16 swivel socket and 9/16 ratcheting wrench.
why not intsall the header then have a mount fabbed up that bolts up to the header and clamps/welded to the cat. in esssence you'll have a custom downpipe made
-
alright so here is the new header (http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b12/joho4ever/header003.jpg)
here is where it connects to the downpipe(http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b12/joho4ever/header001.jpg)
here is the other end of the downpipe(http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b12/joho4ever/header002.jpg)
now how do i make this....(http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b12/joho4ever/header004.jpg)
connect to this...(http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b12/joho4ever/header008.jpg)

Looks like the cat was replaced at one time at a Muffler shop that didn't have a OEM replacement. Clamping them will be a PITA. You could replace the cat with a Bolt-on style then you wouldn't need to do any fabricating. ($114) or you could put a new flange on the cat. Looks like they removed the exhaust bracket that usually bolts to the cat, too. Third option is to just weld them together.

Wow, thats what mine used to look like!!! I had the same set-up on mine, I just hacked the "bolt plate" off and clamped them.........figuring any tranny dropping or anything like that, you can take it off easier......

Okay since this is being discussed I'd like to ask. Who is running a PaceSetter header? Any issues? Should I spend more money & get a Banks or Clifford ( If they ever make them again) or is the PaceSetter okay?
-
The recommendations, I've heard say, go with Banks, Borla or Clifford.
-
I haven't any issues other than putting it on was a b!*ch but no others yet. I've had it for about 2yrs.
-
yeah i would say go with pacesetter cuz the other brand headers are a big waste of money for little power gain, all you need to do is send the header to a place like jet-hot and they have a lifetime warranty on new headers so you'll be set. my .02

go with borla... i've got a clifford.

i run the borla and i have no complaints and sounds good

I'm on my second pacesetter (went cheap). The first one rotted out in <2 years where the four pipes meet. I cuts the welds and found that the corrosion had extended up about 6 inches from the inside out. I guess banks would be a better idea next go around. I don't want to have the do the install again, big pita.

I'm running a Pacesetter. I had to have the exhaust custom routed in front of the oil pan. The design was for it to run underneath the oil pan, and my pan was beat up already. I can't imagine how bad the crossover tube would be if it was left in the place it was supposed to run.
I also had to have the O2 sensor relocated. It was facing forward and down real low. I had it moved more inside the engine compartment and facing up.
Once again, if I could do it over again, and if I was using someone else's money, I would not have run Pacesetter. It's ok for the price, but Banks, Gibson are better. Clifford is really, really good.

how much did you spend for the custom pipe? and how did you relocate the 02 sensor? i just got my pacesetter back from Jet-Hot and its ready to go on but im not too sure about that header pipe.

I seriously don't remember what I paid. I just got the whole thing installed, along with a new cat. When I say how it was routed, I commented that I would have killed that lower bar the first time out. So he just cut it, welded a becn forward (which was odd) and routed it much higher up the along the oil pan.
Then, as I drove it a few days I started having major engine issues. It kept bumping and jarring... I looked under the hood and the O2 wire was touching against the manifold. It kept shorting out. So I had it brought back, rewired and ziptied away from the manifold. The issue of relocating it took more thought than we gave it.
Money shouldn't be too big of an issue. If you want it done right, shop around abit, but get it done. It'll save you soo much more in the future. If either one of those things get messed up on the trail, or the streets... It'll cost you even more to get them repaired.
