Title: Need power
Post by: wedwards on March 09, 2008, 02:06:17 PM
As all of you know with a big lift (about 6-1/2" not including tires which are 33's) power tends to suffer a bit.  I plan on changing to 4.88 gears soon, but while driving down the highway you can either draft someone or barely do 55 in 4 th gear, 5th is useless at this point.  What power upgrades do you recommend?

91 yj
stock motor
4.10 gear
stock exhaust

The latest pic at the beach.

Its not so much that I want to go 90, I just want enough power to go into some deep mud.

The easy things are to install a 4.0L throttle body and maybe a spacer, a header and good cat back exhaust, and Ford 19# injectors. You should also take out the restrictor in the airbox. An electric fan is also good for a few ponies.
I went with a turbo on mine.

Swampers run pretty true to size, as opposed to a 33" BFG which is 31" if you are lucky
