Title: Winch Wheels?
Post by: flyingbrick on March 19, 2008, 10:30:42 AM
Something just does not seem right about this… Although it seems to work in sand, mud, I’d assume snow, but not rocks.

More of an emergency use thing I'm guessing.  Interesting idea.

Thinking about it some more, it doesn't seem like it would work unless you had a locker.

On there website they seem to highly recommend one on each side to share the load and in Australia lockers are more common.

It's not really a new concept.  Actually it's an old one.  They have has similar things back in the 30's and 40's.  The old wrap a rope around your tire still works to some extent but then it's really a last resort.  You'd be better off with a winch or a buddy with a strap or winch.  I'd hate to have the lugs bent or broken while being stuck, too.

This concept has been built into the hubs of military hummers as well, but don't know if it's ever been used.

Forget about the Smitty Built; for that price, I'd buy a Warn!
