Title: Gas Tank

Got a 97 TJ just removed the gas tank and I trying to get the gas out of it. Can some one tell me how?? There's a screen in the fill pipe hole, can't get a hose in there. Tank is 3/4 full.

Are you putting it back in?  When I converted my 15 gal tank to 18 gal I just left the gas in it.  I could do everything I needed with the tank half full.

Yea I guess I could leave it in the tank. Just makes it a little heavy. I'm just putting a new skid plate on, the old one is beat up too bad.

disconnect the fuel line underneath towards the front then hotwire the fuel pump will empty that puppy in a jiff

There are 4 wires on the plug for the pump. I'd say 2 for the fuel Gauge and 2 for the pump. Which ones are the pump?? Don't want to screw up the fuel gauge.

A bit cumbersome but if you don't want to mess with the wires you could just turn the key to run (not start) repeatedly.  This causes the pump to run for a while to pressurize the system.  It may take a lot of cycles though.

Got the job all done, Was putting a new skid plate on the tank. Must of hit a rock or two.

It's a bit late but you would simply jump the fuel pump relais find the battery hot then jump acros to the fuel pump wire. rhe relias has four wires in its socket a battery hot an ignition hot a ground controlled bu the ecm and lastly the wire for the fuel pump

Here is what is in your gas tank and why you couldn't put a hose in to suck out the gas.

The big one is the fill tube and the small one is the vent that prevents you from filling the volume size of the tank. The same tank is for both the 4cyl and 6 cyl. Its just the 6cyl has a lesser length small tube. I shortened mine while doubling up a late model skid plate.
