Title: clicking sound
Post by: neale_rs on April 17, 2008, 09:39:48 AM
My Jeep makes clicking sounds sometimes.  It sounds exactly like when a small rock is stuck in the tire treads and it clicks each time it hits the pavement.  But I haven't been able to find any rocks in the treads .  It only does it past a certain speed and I haven't been able to detect a reproducible pattern to it, it seems to happen at random times.  Any ideas what could sound like this?   Thanks

just throwin it out there but it could possibly be something inside the wheel/tire: for example i had a f250 come in at work and it kinda sounded like your above description. i found water and a rag inside. you may think this is way out there but truth be told its happened a few times in my shop. other than that i would start with easy stuff to shoot at it like getting your tires road force balanced. this indexs (sp) the high and low spots on the wheel with the high and low spots on the tire.  anyways keep us/ me posted on your findings.

This could be what is going on.  I might try spinning each one individually and try to listen for something inside.  Thanks

Thanks.  I'll have to wait to see this at home since youtube has been blocked here at work.

If you find what the sound is be sure to smack it with a hammer.  ;)
