Title: Racks?
Post by: smashcoast on May 04, 2008, 09:26:59 PM
Looking at some racks recently and like the Dave's rack by Olympic and the Kargo master, Does anyone have these or know of someone who does and how are they?

Out of those two, I think I like the Kargo Master, although I have no first hand experience.   I do know some of Olympic's stuff isn't up to regular/abuse use.

I just bought a Kargo Master Congo Cage and a Bushman 52" x 60" rack from quadratec. It should be arriving in the next 4 weeks since it has to fly all to way to Santiago, Chile.  :weee:

If by that date you are still looking for racks i can give you my review of the kargo master.

Hope it helps

Cheers,

Thomas

i'd go for the Kargo Master. i just picked up a used one (the older style with the straight bars) and it is built TANK tough. VERY heavy duty steel..almost like an external roll-cage. i've been cleaning it and slapping on a new coat of paint and hope to have it installed this weekend (provided i have all the necessary bolts/screws). i'll try to update when i have it bolted on. cheers.

Thanks.

Tsd let me know when it arrives.  The kongo cage and bushman rack is that a complete set or is additional hardware needed to mount it!

It appears to be everything you need, aside from drilling, there is no additional hardware needed. Here are the links for both products:

Quadratec back ordered the rack and the congo cage and it took them 5 weeks to send it
My courrier notified me that my package from kargo master arrived today at Miami.  Since it is a heavy package (123 pounds) i think it will be here in a couple of weeks.  :'(

Iīll keep you updated

The Olympic stuff tends to rust quickly, not that big a deal in So Cali, I have the small rack that mounts behind the seats inside of the roll cage. Nice rack for my use but poor powder coating

I have an update:

My rack arrived. and it took me and my brother a day to install everything. Instructions are very clear with the tips from this write up http://www.4x4xplor.com/kargomaster.html it was really easy although the one on the write up is an older model. The hardest thing to do is to make up your mind to drill two holes in the back of the jeep.
I was surprised how thick the tubes are, it is really tough, almost like an exterior roll cage and it does not rattle at all.

Some pics:

And it doesn't block your vision either:

I would definitely recommend it!

Looks good! That's the 52x60 length right, the longer one? a few aux lights and hi-jack mount and it will be perfect! I will definitly go with the kargo master!

How did the drilling go? It goes above the the lights right? How hard was it to drill into the tub?
Title: Re: Racks?
Post by: Tsd on July 11, 2008, 08:42:33 AM
It wasn't hard to do, you just put the rear mount plates and mark the place where you're going to drill. You will have to remember to remove the carpet on the inside of the jeep or you will drill through it and probably set it on fire.

One thing that the write up ant 4x4xplor says and the manual doesn't is that it is a hundred times more easy to install if you remove any top that you have on the jeep, especially when installing the basket.

Hope it helps!

smashcoast,

After installng the congo cage i had two small solid tubes (didn't appear on the manual) as left overs.  I contacted kargomaster and ii got their reply today:

Thomas
The two rods that you have are used to help hold the rack in the up position
so that you can add or remove the soft top for the Jeep. They are not part
of the install steps.

Thank you,

Comments: I live in Santiago, Chile and I bought a congo cage through
quadratec for my '99 TJ. There are 2 small, solid tubes that donīt appear
on the manual and i canīt find a use for them. Thanks in advance.

I donīt have a soft top, so i will guess that what the guy means is that the tubes are used to put up or down the top without tilting the cage completely back. I think you temporary insert them in the holes left by the front bolts (the big ones that attach the cage to the jeep) when they are removed.

Hope it helps!
