Took the doors off!
Had my Jeep almost 2 years and never did. Decided to buy myself a pair of mirrors off ebay that screw into the door hinge and I was away.
Gotta say, wish I had done it sooner. Its a great feeling and the fact that it is so easy to do makes it worth while. Apart from getting smacked in the face with a few loose receipts and almost loosing my cigs of the passenger seat, the first trip was a blast.
Just a few thoughts though.
Currently I have my back window still in, I have noticed with the doors off, the air kinda swirls more in the front, do you think I am catching a lot of drag with the back window in? I do have it upzipped at the sides a little.
Also, any tips on keeping the passenger seat belt from going crazy?

unzip the back window, u can keep the side ones zipped in...but with the back window in it feels like ya got a drag racer chute hangin on ur ass...and nothin to do about the belt other than tie it i guess

Binder clips or else, buckle it and flip the shoulder strap behind the seat.

This may sound stupid, but I tried taking mine out the other day and could not... I took the nut out, but the door would not come up. I thought about banging on i with a BFH, but since I was not sure how to get it off, I decided against it.
So how do you get it off? I took the little nut off the top hing (or was it the bottom one?) and tried to lift the door off the hinges... But it would not budge. My intention was to get a punch and hit the post of the hinge from the inside (upward direction) to get the door out. Is this how I should go about getting the doors off? If I could manage to get the doors off, taking the top off would be even faster than removing the top half from the doors!

Don't beat on it. Hit the hinge pins with some WD40 or PBblaster. Allow time to penetrate.
Lift up on the door while swinging it open and closed. This should work the hinge pins out of the hinge bracket.

I alway try to start off with the door at least 90* out. Then swing out in and out and lift and it should come off.
Also, when the doors are off, make sure the plastic sleeve is still in the hinge.

...and once you do get them off, make sure and put a little grease on the pin so it's easier the next time. Mine come off extremely easy now because I do it so often. :thumb:

thats exactly how i get mine off, i hit it with some WD40, wait a bit, work it back and forth and then lift it out...oh, and remeber to take the nuts off first lol

WD40'd mine too, only the drivers side though. The passenger side came right off. Will try out the tips for the seatbelt, although buckling sounds the best.

I just use little bungie cords to wrap them tight to the roll bar for the rear. Never had a problem with the passenger side though, but I think it would work just as well.

Anyone still have their doors on? It's been in the 100's and it's too hot to take my top off but I have the doors off for the past few weeks. I might take the top off as well soon enough.
I've heard the Rubicon still has snow. :fitz:

As far as doors, I love my soft doors for spring/fall. Take em off, split the uppers from the lowers and put them behind the seats. Then you have 'em with you if it gets cold or rains. :thumb:

Okay...safari top went on and doors came off today...a little chilly....will have pics up later of Dougie the Dog riding shotgun. :thumb:

Threw the soft half doors on so Dougie wouldn't get the urge to jump....he had the seatbelt on anyways.... :doggy:

I have also found that the closer to the hinge I hold onto door to lift, the easier they come off. I guess it doesn't put the pin in as much of a bind.
I've had mine off for a few weeks. I have a bikini, jammer, duster combo. When it rains, I take my wife's Jeep to work and cover mine with the trail cover. But she's out of town now so if it rains :eek:

Well...drove with doors off all weekend....back on last night as it was in the FREAKIN' 30'S THIS MORNING!!! WTF!! :mad:

just got back from texas. had the windshield down and doors off for 99% of the trip... when the light rain turned into a down poor we broke down and put the windshield and bikini top on.... gotta love how easy it is to get the windshield down on the cj3a

You guys are right on with the door removal tips. Works well and after several times the doors come off easier.
The "wind drag" of the top stinks. I take everything off whenever I can. I just throw on a jacket and go for it. If you must have the top (rain), I found it best to only remove the rear window.
I have seen the "emergency top" in the Quadratec catalog and think that might help with the pop up showers. I have the trail cover that works pretty well, but you have to park it.
