Title: Cost and method for installing Unlocking front hubs
Post by: Canuck Bob on June 17, 2008, 11:13:48 AM
What would it cost to install unlocking front hubs on a 4banger TJ?  Is it much work?  I'm thinking Warn Premiums any other suggestions?

After searching for manual hubs found all kinds of good stuff.

It is very expensive for YJs and TJs.  Most people don't bother to do it.  It is probably more cost effective to just swap in some Dana 44 axles front and rear.

I agree, unless you really, really like the 5 on 4.5" bolt pattern.   Moving up to 5 or 6 on 5.5" will allow you to use the much stronger full-size hubs.  The Hub conversions use the Explorer type of hub, not the Warn Premium hubs.  So when you take the tire off the hub will come off, IIRC.  The hubs are also made from composites and not metal.  I think you're looking at around $900 for a Warn Hub conversion and you'll probably need to get new disc brakes and have them bored out to fit.
