Title: It was so hot...
Post by: Jeffy on June 22, 2008, 07:56:27 PM
...my windshield cracked.  So now I have a 8" crack up the center of my windshield.  Anyone have any luck with the DIY crack kits?

Oh and this was after getting gas.  Spend $70 to get just over 16 gallons!

I think those kits are just for chips, not actual cracks.  If I remember correctly the can only do cracks smaller than 1".

In FL your insurance company has to either repair or replace your windshield at no extra charge to you.  You might want to check on that for your state.

Maybe if you have full coverage.

I haven't had full coverage since it was new.  New windshields is usually around $100 and no more then $50 to install.  I'll probably try a repair kit though.  I can make a hole if I need to.

Time to learn how to install a windsheild.  Doesn't get any easier than a jeep windsheild

This also happened to me some time back, but in my case, the crack formed on the inside, so it could not be fixed.  In my case, my windshield frame had a rust hole, so I just replaced the glass and the frame at the same time and saved on labor...
