So gas has hit an all time high where i live $4.06 a gallon, it is absolutely getting to be ridiculous. What all do you suggest i do to my jeep to keep up performance and increase my MPG's???
Any and all ideas are welcome...
-
Try $4.39-$4.59. Cost me over $70 to fill my tank with 16gal. The #1 thing to do is drive less aggressive and learn some gas saving techniques.
Keep the Jeep stock is probably a good idea too but it's not as much fun.

Extremely lucky to pay only $4.06. In the Bay Area California I wait in line with for about 20min to pay Costco $4.59 a gallon of 87 octane.
I have seen the 91 octane at Shell a couple cents away from $5 bucks.
Enjoy the savings,

:stfu: :stfu: :stfu: If we aren't complaining about our lack of power... its about our lack of MPG!!!!!

:fitz: was not whining just trying to get some help my funds are low right now so as the guy above me said :stfu:

It's not that bad here in South MS. I just paid $3.87/gal (can't believe I'm saying that's not bad) today on my way home. Still a lot of money for gas... and today the barrel sky rocketted back to $140, so if you haven't yet, you should go gas up, cause it's probably raise gas prices over the weekend.

I NEVER WHINED OR COMPLAIND ABOUT THE POWER OR MIALAGE FROM MY JEEP WHEN I HAD IT, NEVER,
that being said i was making a comment about you Americana's complaining ALL the time, so i told you what i am paying and asked you to stop. If you are going to give me a hard time about ASKING you to stop whining about fuel prices I'll just ask to have my account deleted, as i not longer directly own my jeep and THOUGHT this place had friendly people with strong conversion and great information, but it seems to be changing.

whoa, whoa, whoa....let's all calm down...I think these high gas prices are making us all crazy......

Woah.. woah.. clam down. No one, including me, is giving you a hard time. It was a joke. Let's keep in mind that I didn't sock you in the head.. I just said if we aren't complaining about power...its gas. This is a wonderfull place full of nice people and important information. Don't leave jsut because of something as silly as this...

There are a few things you can do to get better mileage, but in the end, it's still a brick on wheels. Right now I'm getting 20 mpg with an automatic, full doors, and hard top. So that's not bad. Honestly try going here, http://www.mpgresearch.com/ (http://www.mpgresearch.com/). They have a lot of good info and cool ideas. I really haven't had a chance to try much, but really want to pull the motor and build it first before I do too much.
-
*sigh*....I remember when my Jeeped actually pulled off 21 mpg...the day I drove it home from VA....but it looked like this:

I'll take the loss in MPG to have it look the way it does today. :twofingers:

I'm sure someone will make a sticker that reads, 'I get 9mpg but I have carbon credits up the yingyang..."

Just paid $4.95 for 87 in Pasadena ,CA! How is it that the gas in CA is more than say Missouri? Why is everything in CA so much more expensive? If i made what I made in Wisconsin I would live like a king, and have 10 of the most awesome jeeps ever! AH I guess the weather!

Because we have 'special' gas. It's formulated different. What they really should do is make two grades (Regular & Premium) and have them universal across the country. IIRC, there's something like 30-40 different blends used across the US.

changing your driving habits can help quite a bit..."light on the right (foot)". i'm running 31' with a hardtop and on a good week i can sqeak out 19-20 mpg....lots of coasting in neutral and SLOW acceleration from redlights. highway merging/freeway-speed sucks it out of the tank BIG TIME. good luck. cheers.

I started commuting to work on the MTB 2-3 days a week (18mi. ride round trip). Getting rid of the gut and lowering the gas consumption. Mashing the pedals is a good stress reliever too.

Right now Gas prices are up apparently because big money -- funds, institutional investors -- have no where else to go in order to try to eak out some performance for their investors. So they cram in to the commodities futures market because they can get away with it. And seriously, look at the NASDAQ/NYSE... Do you really see a growth sector in there?
Anyway, reality is that if you have a new administration, say Obama or McCain (though I'd tend to say Obama), you are going to probably see a lot of federal manuevers to encourage private investment in industry designed to reduce U.S. dependance on foreign oil, etc. etc. Then: TA DA!, this turns in to a new growth area for everybody to throw capital at including the Funds and Instutitional Investors. Suddenly these institutions and funds pull out of oil futures and invest in new companies designed to reduce foreign oil dependency, all for the sake of stronger capital gains for their investors. Result: Price of a barrel of oil drops dramatically.
We are going to end up back in a situation where gas only retails for $3.00 a gallon or so -- probably less. Nevertheless, there is going to be a general pervasive fear in the public that didn't exist before: "Jeez what happens if gas goes back up to $8 a gallon at the pump...I don't want to get caught on the wrong side of that again. Man, I really better look at investing in alt energy companies, buy a plug in hybrid etc. etc.,."
My call regarding the future retail price of gas is that people will look at any return of prices to $3.00 or less as nice, but far from set in stone. As such they will begin to look at other ways to get around that rely less on gasoline. And I think those ways will be around to cater to this new demand.

If you're going to post that sub $3/gal gas is coming it should be done in the joke thread.
-
i agree i dont see gas going down anytime soon lol i think that the whole thing is a scam...
but hey great discussion guys it sounds like i need to return my jeep to stock...which wont happen...or drive slower which i could learn to do :brick:

I wouldn't want to insult the guy calling his thread a joke. But, joke or no, this is where my comment sits. And if I am wrong about my call, I'll give you my D35 no charge (you just pay shipping)

I am getting in shape to do the same (although I dont know about 3 times a week; I think in my case, twice will be tops!). Also about 19 mi round trip and also a mountain bike.
As for the price of gas, I doubt it will come down anytime soon, but eventually, it will. The main problem I see is that the so called solutions currently out there are not so much as solutions; they are more like band-aids to a very big problem.

to improve performance and fuel economy has any tried or herd of "singh grooves"?
-
I've heard of the "grooves". I think they would be a really good addition to our motors. Allow a higher comp ratio and supposedly work best at lower rpms. I would also edge the chambers while your at it, and also do the rings on the intake valves, and lynes in the intake ports of the head.
Honestly whenever I get around to buildin a motor (mine or get another to shorten down time) I plan to go 60 over bore, knife edge the crank, grind pistons to same weight, grind rods to same weight, balance rotating assembly, 10 under bearings all around, then power rings, power lynes, edge, grooves, and deck the head, port match and polish everything.
