My automatic rear lockers activate when I take off at a stop light..sometimes. Also when I shift into 3rd around 30mph. Is this normal. I have the Mud Super Swampers and at first it did it all the time, but them I put PSI back up to 50 from 20psi. It does it rarely now, but should it still be locking if I am not launching or powershifting into 3rd gear?

What kind of locker do you have? Most real lockers are locked all the time and then un-lock as needed.

I have the Detroit easy lockers with the 4:88 gears. If it does no harm them I am okay, but it scares the hell out of people next to me when I am driving. :dance:

It's normal. It usually takes a week or so to get used to the locker and adjust your driving habits to keep it quiet. The locker is for the most part always locked. The only times it unlocks is when you turn. That's when it unlocks unless you're on the throttle. It will lock and unlock if you try to coast it through a turn...

I forgot to mention, if you happen to turn into a lane or even shift in your lane before coming to a stop, the locker might have disconnected so when you drive off it will *bang. That's the only time my locker makes any noise, although mien's a Detroit Softlocker so it's a bit better behaved.

Enjoy the unexpected lane changes, especially if you're in a TJ. Spools are so much more drivable.

Unless you have soft leaf springs. Massive rear steer on pavement.

Whoa! Let some air out of them tires. You should not be running that high. You should probably be closer to about 30psi.

I have soft leaf springs, and no negative side-effects. I haven't experienced any rear steer, and if they do it'd be the same as an auto locker without all the unexpected lane changes from locking/unlocking. Auto lockers are just unnerving on the street, sounding like the diff is going to grenade. I've been running a spool and lincoln lockers on the street for years with no problems.

You must be able to get your tires to chirp ;) My last jeep had 37" IROKS with a spooled D60 It would rear steer like crazy.

I can't wait to upgrade my auto lockers, OX locker are next on the "to get" list. X2 on the possible lane changes :eek:

Hmm, I have no issues with my Detroit. I can induce rear steer but it rarely happens on it's own. Not enough to change lanes in any case. :confused:
