So I am shopping around for a 4.0 throttle body to swap in. I have also been checking out cold air intakes. Most of the quality ones...K&N, Volant only have applications for the 4.0. I run a Banks header (torque tubes) and a Banks Monster exhaust. Banks makes a ram-air cold air intake for the 4.0. Here is my million dollar question..."If I were to swap in a 4.0 tb then would a cold air intake designed for a 4.0 work?" Or would I need an intake designed for a 2.5? Are they designed based on the size of the throttle body or the location?

No, it has nothing to do with the TB but rather the placement of the TB. The 4.0L has the TB further forward so it will be short for a 2.5L.

I am running an AEM Bruteforce CAI with a 4.0 throttle body on my 2.5 liter engine. Works real well. The dryflow element does not require oiling.

So all yall running a 4.0 tb on an 2.5 Is that like a 91 and up 2.5. ? Just dont look rite on my 89

Thanks for the help Jeffy. I will probably run the 4.0 t/b with my stock intake and establish a baseline for the CAI mod later on. Here is a link to JP magazine... they did a cold air intake shoot out on a dyno and compare 4-5 of the top intakes. http://www.jpmagazine.com/techarticles/engine/154_0804_jeep_wrangler_intake_shootout/index.html

Sorry... actually the review is for 10 of the top cold air intakes.

Consider a 62mm throttle body, 7mm larger than the 4.0 tb and removes the taper for quicker off-idle throttle response. Check out the classifieds.

I was considering the 62mm... I will look into it...thanks Bounty Hunter.
