Title: Tire and gearing question?
Post by: smashcoast on July 26, 2008, 06:07:25 PM
I decided to get the 4" Full Traction short arm lift (whats a good not to exspensive shock?)

My question is I really dont want to lose to much power for daily driving, I'm running 31x10.50's now. So is there a real big diff in 32x11.50  as opposed to 33x12.50? As in size and weight?

Or is the diff not that great?
What are the main wheeling benefits of a larger tire as opposed to smaller?

What is a good gearing for 32's and 33's in a 97 TJ?

Thanks any opinions or comments will help alot!

FAQ?

Personally, I'd run 33x10.5R15's over 32x11.5's.  The Jump from 31 to 32 isn't that noticeable BUT going from stock to 32's is.  I'd regeat once if you plan on keeping the existing axles.  Might as well got 4.88's and call it good.  That's the lowest you can go in the stock axles.

I think the skinny tires work great on light 4banger jeeps, plus less wind and rolling resistance onroad.

Going from 33x12.50's to 32 x11.50's gained me 3 miles to the gallon stop and go driving as far as diam difference they both measured a true 31" in diam. So skinny tires rule, don't look as cool but they will do the job and save you some money

Hmm, what a garbled mess I wrote...

In addition, if you have the clearance, I'd recommend 33x10.5R15's in MT's or 33x9.5R15's in AT's.

I too like a skinny tire on a Jeep.  33x10.50's would look good.

i personally dont like the skinny tires. i have 35 x 12.5 and they look real good in my opinion and i manage about 16-18 mpg with 4.88 gears and it picks up pretty well too
