My exhaust on the Jeep is old and busted. I know exhaust for the 2.5 has been talked about here before. I don't really want anything fancy but how would just throwing on a flowmaster 40 series sound? I'm kinda liking this:

I know the 40 series sound great on the 4 liters, now I'm not expecting to get the sound of a 4 liter because its just a 2.5. I guess all I want is for it to be a little louder but yet sound ok too.

IMHO on the 4banger it sounds like ass, a loud drone on the highway that drives you insane. I just use a cheap replacement, then you don't feel bad when you smash it.

just give the exhaust some time to rust out the insides... it made mine alittle louder so you have something to listen to but arn't getting a headache.

I had a Flowmaster and it sucked. Well, it sounded cool but that got old fast and since Flowmaster doesn't use stainless steel, mine rusted out and fell off.

I went with Banks Engineering. They use stainless and I combined it with a header from them. It does sound good, a little louder over time. Mine just started getting louder. It sounds awesome at idle and my 4.0 buddy said it sounds cool. I like it...scares the crap out some people as I pass 'em up. But, yeah, having a loud muffler can get annoying with the top down on long rides. More noise does not equal more power. Having a performance exhaust system does prop the door open for other mods in the future...i.e. intake, chip.

Nope but it does help block out the other rattles, squeaks and strange noises that you might have so you dont notice them as much

I just recently put on a magnaflow cat and banks cat back along with an aem cold air intake, and it sounds great at idle. It sounds loud driving with top off I have to blast the radio in order to not hear it! But i had my wife drive up and down the street and it sounds like it has balls and not to ricey!

I just reworked the exhaust on my '86 Comanche. I wanted to go hi-flow for the slight performance/economy gains, but since it's a DD, I definitely didn't want a "rice" sound, or something that would drown me out of the cab.
I followed a friends recomendation and went with a 2.5" system, Magnaflow cat (http://www.planetmagnaflow.com/shop/magnaflow-91006-701.html) and a Gibson Superflow (http://www.jcwhitney.com/Performance-Mufflers/GP_2013627_N_111+1986+200728799+600001787_10101.jcw) (the oval style, not the round cherry bomb style). Then I had a local shop fab up the rest of the pipe and install it all for about $100
I really like the Gibson - it's about $20-$30 more than the Flowmaster, but worth it IMO. It has a deeper, more subdued tone and doesn't get that loud until I'm above 3500rpms or so, so it sounds fine driving around town. It's not nearly as raspy as some of the Flowmasters I've heard. Definitely still sounds like a 4 banger, but IMO it's a much closer sound to a 4.0 than many of the other set-ups I've seen.
