Title: Karma isn't a funny thing (with pics)
Post by: Tsd on September 05, 2008, 02:55:13 PM
So....i was going home after a f*****ng sh**y week of classes, minding my own freaking business when a encountered a f****ng truck driver that didn't considered a red f***ng light as a reason to stop his damn truck.

Truck running a red light driven by an ass**** vs Jeep Wrangler 1999 driven by a happy person about to enjoy his weekend:

Don't think i need to clarify who won, i'm so pissed off i think my life expectancy shortened by about 25 years

thats no good man. Most accidents we see between semi's and passenger vehicles around here are always on the highway, and the passenger car doesnt make it out nearly as good as you did.

Hope your ok though.

Good you're OK.  That is some weird looking damage - what part of the truck hit what part of your jeep?  Looks like it was driven under the rear bumper of a semi.

I came out unharmed and damage or jeep will be covered by the insurance, so that's good,

About the weird looking damage, i hit the truck on it's side between the axles whit the front of the jeep. It went right under the cargo platform. that's why everything is bent that way, a little faster and my head would have been chopped.

Wow, glad your OK.

Are they going to fix it?  if the frame is OK, then all it will probably need is a new front clip, radiator, radiator supports, and front bumper.  If they're going to total, it I'd be wrenching off parts right away.

Strange garage.  Bunch of Mini's and what may be a Lotus or something Italian.

I wouldn't mind a original mini MKI.  The blue one looks like a MKI, actually...

Well, we don't have junkyards with jeeps here, only old stuff. Called local stealership for a budget...hold on to your seats....8500$ only in parts!!!!!!!!!!!
I think the insurance company will want to declare it a total loss, i am, as i type, removing winch, rack, auxiliary lights, etc.

About the garage, the owner is a friend of mine and he LOVES minis, he has 2 MKI, 2 1275 GT and a left handed british open special edition, his garage is the only acredited here in chile to rare cars like ferraris or maseratis, and he restores cars too, he wroked on the only 1967 shelby gt 500 here, he had a pierce arrow once.

Sneak peak:

I can post more images if anyone is interested.

Returning to original post... i'm so sad about my Wrangler, i loved it. If it is a total loss, next week i will start hunting for another one.

Used to work on those little Mini's for a dealership when I started out as a mechanic in the Netherlands.
Pain in the neck to work on but so much fun to drive

I'd just grab everything and anything out of it before they claim it.  Don't forget the top and doors!  Maybe even the seats.  You might be able to grab some engine stuff as well if you want spares.  I'd even consider axles, let them drag the carcass away,

Just finished stripping the jeep, it's ready to be inspected on monday.
I'm already tempted with a yellow 2001 4banger with 2"BB, 4" rough country lift, lockers, 4.88 gears and 33*12.5 maxxis mudzillas :naughty:
Wish me luck  :wall:

As they say, when thrown , it's best to get right back in the saddle!! Good luck with the "new" Jeep!

I have a question that could decide the fate of my Wrangler  :pot:

I've seen a lot of rotting CJ's on junkyards here so i need to know how hard is putting an entire CJ front on a TJ?  hood, fenders, grille, everything.  I've seen people doing it easily on YJ's because they share the same tub. Has anyone seen it on TJ?

I'm not sure if I have seen a CJ clip on a TJ.  I don't think it will fit, nor look good. The TJ hood grill, fenders, etc, are a few inches wider.  I think it's about 4-5".   I've seen a TJ clip on a YJ and it didn't look that great.  I guess if you're 100m away it might convince you but otherwise it looked halfassed.  How about you get a TJ rolling chassis then drop a YJ or CJ tub on it and use a CJ grill?

Muchas gracias por los buenos deseos!   :beers:

I'm analyzing all possibilities since my insurance company mysteriously lost my insurance policy when they merged with another company , i hope they find it.
I thought about the CJ front because i know a lot of people who would love to have a CJ with modern electronics and that could circulate everyday in the city ( dumb government has a lot of restrictions for vehicles without an original catalytic converter), but if it's not going to look good then probably it's not worth it.

We were just having this discussion on the JeepsUnlimited TJ forum last week....I think the consensus was it is not worth the trouble.

I think a YJ tub on a TJ frame would be awesome.  Actually, that's what Chrysler did back in 1993 when they were running the prototype through the Rubicon.  You'd get the new and the old.  Then swap a CJ-7 front clip on there and it would be really sharp.   :thumb:
