Title: Shift Boot

I was driving back to college on sunday after a weekend at home, and when I got back to the school, I noticed my shift boot had come loose. I can't seem to get it to go back in and stay put... any suggestions? :'(

The shift boot just goes around a lip on a plastic insert that goes into the center console.  Could the plastic insert have broken on one side causing the boot to not be stretched/tight around it?

The insert broke on me once and and the boot did not stay put around it very well.  I just took a piece of aluminum to reinforce/brace that side with screws and now its stronger than before.
