Title: Shock Q!
Post by: smashcoast on September 27, 2008, 05:41:06 PM
Is there a big difference betwen hydro and gas shocks? i have the RE shocks that came with the BB and they are pretty good, but once i put on my new lift I need taller shocks and are gas shocks worth the few xtra bucks?

If you're beating up your shocks offroad with a lot of cycles then the Nitrogen charged shocks will prevent foaming better then the Hydros.

So are skyjacker shocks any good? $33 for hydro and $39 for gas so for the little extra $ i'll just get gas. Or should I spend more on the billstein?

Mostly daily driver and some trail.

I run skyjacker hydro's in the front of mine, pretty happy for the price. Seal blew out on one of them and service was great on getting warranty replacement.

Gas charged shocks tend to ride a little rougher, I like to stick with Hydraulic like Doetch-Tech 3000's from RE.

Honestly, I'd spend the money to buy good shocks.  The Bilistein's are high up there in quality.  I have never heard any complaints.  Also a lot of the guys I know who used to run RS9000's in the 90's have moved to the 5100 series.

Ride quality really comes down to getting the right valving on the shock and less about construction though.
