Title: Anyone know about this?
Post by: 95yj4 on October 13, 2008, 03:57:00 PM
I read the article on here about extra filtering for the oil by running a bigger filter. Ever since then, I've been running a bigger filter. Well I got to thinkin the other day about a remote line kit and run 2 filters of the same size, even better. Well then I thought what if they make an even bigger filter! Maybe even run a remote line with 2 bigger filters, BAD A$$!!!! Yeah so I started to look into it and actually found a bigger filter. Its a Purolator L40017. Its practically identical to the one im runnin now exept bigger. The stock is about 3.5", the one I have know is about 5", the Purolator I picked up is a whole 7"! It actually looks like I will be able to put it on but I can only prove it when I do my next oil change. So I really wanted to know if anyone has heard or has done this.

If the thread pitch and the seal match then it shouldn't be a problem.

Let us know, more oil and more filter media is always nice.

isn't there a thread about this in the Faq? its good to know either way.. my dad had a kit that gave him 2 massive oil filters on his 87 diesel truck.. gave him about double the capacity and he could run it a lot longer between oil changes.

Well from the info I gathered from the makers website its an exact match. The only thing I need to confirm is if I have room to get it on there, looks like its gonna be tight. There is a section about bigger filters in the FAQ's, but its about the 5" filters. This is 7". If it fits I'm gonna use it all the time and eventually get a dual remote kit and run 2 of em. Another reason y I hope it works is because its actually cheaper then the one I'm runnin now ($6 as opposed to $10). But yeah still waitin to do an oil change.

Let us know if it works (and make sure you post the part number for the filter).

the remote oil location would kinda be nice so that oil wouldn't spill on the stater every time i change oil... but my experience with them in my s10 has been bad.. but there are probably better kits that will last forever + the benefits you have listed.

Alright sorry it took so long, but I finally got around to changin the oil and the filter fits, barely. enough to put it on without too much hassle. But a word of caustion, make sure your motor mounts a still good cause if it shifts a lot I'm sure its gettin nailed. Oh yeah and now I fit a whole 5 quarts! The part number is the one I stated in the original post L40017. So just thought I'd let everyone know about that.
