I'm the proud new owner of this green 1999 Wrangler 4 banger, it has 50000 miles, 31x10.5 tires on 15x8.5 wheels (with spacers, haven't checked how big), ramsey rep 8000 winch, bestop soft top and original hard top.

So you gonna remove the spacers?  I'd guess they are 1"-2".

I'm guessing he's going to put everything he salvaged off  his wreck to put back on his new ride.

Sounds like a good plan...I didn't know he had one that was wrecked.
If mine got wrecked I think a large part of me would just about die! :'(

Thanks for the update.

Glad your OK Tsd. Looks like it was a pretty nasty wreck.

Congrats on the new ride.

Thanks to everyone. First mod will be buying an air filter, it is missing. I changed the speedo gear this morning and the change was pretty noticeable. On monday I will swap the seats from the old one to this one, as well as the steering wheel. After hopefully approving all my final exams I will install the congo cage and the auxiliary lighting from the wrecked one.

Should i remove the spacers? I think they look pretty cool  :pirate:

I'm planning to get the jeep baptized with holy mud next weekend.

aside from the cage, were you able to salvage anything else from your wrecked tj? maybe some spare parts just in case?

Your flares are what are usually found on the Sahara which are 1" wider then the basic flare.  There is no need to have the tires stick out that far especially when you're using such small tires.    Correct for rubbing by adjusting the steering stops and keep the tires in.  Running spacers is just an additional thing to go wrong with your Jeep.

I took the hard top (sold), the back seat (sold), gears an pinions from both axles (sold them too), the side steps (my grandma has to be able to climb to the jeep), the original add-a-trunk (sold)  and all the sensors that survived. TJ's are so rare here that insurance companies know next to nothing of them, officially i was driving topless in the middle of winter and it never had a backseat. Since I removed all the carpets the place were the backseat was looks like the back of a truck  :pirate:.

I really liked splashing water and mud all over the jeep when I crossed puddles, and since we don't have a law for keeping the tires under the flares here, i was thinking on keeping them, do aluminum spacers have a high chance of failing?

Those flares dont look 1" wider like the Rubicons. I thought the Rubi's were the only one that had wider stock flares?

i hear what your saying about being able to spray mud and water everywhere... that's on of the things i like about the willys not having fender flares so they cover themselves in mud.. unlike these new fender flared jeeps that stay clean.

i think what goes bad with the spacers is that they come loose from the axle

Yep, i think they are stock flares painted to match the jeep.

The right way to use spacers would be to have longer studs on the axle and use steel plates.  Most aluminum spacers have at least 1" since they require the extra room to allow for the nuts.  The spacers use the original studs and are bolted to the axles then your wheels use a new set of studs on the spacer.  Not really good if you go offroad.  It also means if you flex enough, your tires will eat a groove into the bottom edge of your flares.  Some say changing the offset like that puts more stress on teh wheel bearings but I'm not so sure it matters enough.  Stock wheel width is 5.5" while those of us on 33 and up are usually running 3.75".  Still I know some guy's who have had spacers and have has no problems.  They know they aren't optimal though.

After my finals i will check the spacers issue and see if it flex enough to eat the flares. Thanks for the info.  :beers:
