Title: center console
Post by: JeffsJeep on November 27, 2008, 03:12:23 PM
hey guys, i bought a 00, or so I think wrangler 4 banger.  It is the se edition with the cheap 1 cup holder and no arm rest.  I still have my 91 but I think im gonna sell her.  Anyway I have 3 questions.  First the airbag switch by the shifter, didnt it start in 2001?  Also second, this console on ebay, link here
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_Car-Truck-Parts-Accessories__1997-2006-Jeep-Wrangler-Center-Console-Slate-OEM_W0QQitemZ250328359917QQadiZ2865QQadnZCarQ20Q26Q20TruckQ20PartsQ20Q26Q20AccessoriesQQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item250328359917&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=72%3A543|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318

My question regarding this is has anyone installed it?  Does it just bolt/screw on to my existing console and look pretty factory, or does it look like some cheap aftermarket item?

My other question would be do you think I should go this route instead,

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=360102299268

The seller says that there is cupholders for the rear passangers, but on the other auctions I look at there is no cupholders on the back of the mopar center consoles.  Is this guy lying or doesnt know what hes talking about?  I emailed him to ask for more pictures but have notten no response.  Does anyone have this console and can tell me if there is or isnt cup holders for the rear passangers?

Thanks for your input or help,
Jeff

The airbag started in 2000...that's what I have as well.

Don't go with either of those....spend just a little more and get the Tuffy security console.  Has two cup holders up front and adds two to the rear.  Here is a pic of mine after I put it in a couple of years ago.

This pic shows where the subwoofer can go.

You can safely leave your top down and lock stuff in the center console...I wouldn't do that with a plastic Mopar unit.

how much are these tuffys, and where can i find them?  do you have any more pictures or a link that has more pictures.  it looks pretty rugged.  is it steel i take it?  does it come keyed?  do they come with the sub mounts like yours, or it that custom?
thanks alot for the reply by the way!

Edit: also are the speakers on my soundbar 6x9's?  did the 00 wrangler come stock with this speaker bar option or is an add on?

You can by Tuffy gear from any large 4wd shop....www.4wd.com is where I got mine.

Many options for the center console.  Check them out on their site....http://www.tuffyproducts.com/s-56-1997-2000.aspx (http://www.tuffyproducts.com/s-56-1997-2000.aspx)

Stock speakers are 5.25" in the rear and 4x6 up front.

There are speaker brackets availble online as well to convert to 5.25 up front...works great for me.

Check out my rig build here (http://4bangerjp.com/forums/index.php?topic=2750.0).

Holy crap, $475 for that console!  I think I'll take my chances with locking my stuff in one of the 2 plastic ones, nobody really steals stuff around here. But I really want to see some pictures of other peoples setups of the 2 different stock ones.  I really like the idea of the console with the mount for the sub, but I already have a alpine cd player and don't know if it would just wire up like a regular sub?  If so I can do it no problem.  But I don't want it to look like a cheap add on to my stock cheap console.

Edit, also has anyone been able to fit 6x9's in the speaker bar in the back?  I havent taken it apart yet and I will if nobody has tried it, just to see if it would work.

Don't do 6x9's...ovals suck...you'll get better sound from a 6.5"...and it should fit.

I bought the factory setup from scotty;s junkyard here in so cali, 100 bucks came with the subwoofer, took me a bit but wired the subwoofer into the radio and rekeyed the lock been a happy camper ever since.
The center console thing should have a screw under the rubber thingy inside the cup jolder take the screw out and the douvle cupholder should come right out the factory back part bolts right in it has the holes in the floorboard. If all else fails I have a black front piece for the center console you find the back part and you have the hole setup

2003 and later Jeeps use the console with either the subwoofer or a 2 cup cup holder on an SE.
I bought the whole thing  and just used the console with the subwoofer in it

There is no reason why the whole setup will not bolt into your jeep, but as it states in the ebay at for the older TJ's you need the front piece also. I bought the whole thing here for 100 bucks from Scotty's jeep wrecking in Fontana Ca. I have a black front piece you can have. All you would have to do is pay shipping, that or buy the whole thing from a local wrecking yard

Thanks for the offer!  Does my front piece work if its just the 1 cup holder? Or do I have to have your different front piece?  what is different about your front piece than mine if it is different?

Also a nother off topic question but my jeep seems to run just a hair above 210 degrees on the temp guage. is this normal?

smittybuilt makes a security console similar to the Tuffy.  4wheel parts sells it and its less than $200 bucks. Its lockable.  IT was the second thing I bought for my 95   IT haf no center console at all

hey guys, got a quick question.  Does this center console with the sub fit onto mine at all with out any modifications except putting in the drop in cup holder for the front?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=250328359917

I'm still new to Jeeps, so thanks for all your help, Jeff

It will fit in the TJ but not the YJ.  Really though, it's an odd size speaker and not that good.  I mean it's better then nothing.

That center console works with this style front piece . unless your cup holder unscrews it will not fit onto yours
I have this one and if you need it you can have it if you pay for shipping
Since the pic will not show here is a link to what you need

hey aw12345, thanks alot for the offer, but does yours have the on/off switch for the airbags like mine?  Also if it doesnt is there an easy modification such as just cutting in the hole for it?
Thanks again for your help guys, Jeff

BTW this is for my TJ not my YJ.

I guess you could cut a hole for it the newer ones don't have the switch since they come standard with a rear seat. That switch only came on jeeps when the rear seat was optional

Hey aw12345, I have sent you serveral PM's while you were online asking if I could pay for shipping on that front piece for my console, but have gotten no reply?  I have the new console at my house and would really appriciate it if you could send it to me if I paid shipping like you said.  Hell I'd even pay you a little extra if you would like.
Thanks, Jeff

Hi Jeff will look for a box to ship it in tomorow, so I can figure out the shipping cost, the thing is a bit big so they will charge by the box size. I got your zip but no other messages, I did check for new messages
