I thought this might be of some use. I'm always trying to save some cash and knowing all my options brand wise can really help because some brands in this list are definitely cheaper than others. I'm surprised to see Wal-Marts Super Tech brand made the list.

I'm surprised to see Wal-Marts Super Tech brand
Why? Like batteries and brakes, there are really only a few companies actually making ATF - and then it gets relabeled under 100 different names/prices.

I guess it's because of a lot of bashing it takes on other forums. Most conversations I've seen in other places or I've had myself include someone saying they would never use it and will only stick with either major brand names or what they get from the dealer. If it's really no different and is made to the same standards then I'll use either Super Tech or coastal this weekend when I do my swap.
-
The bashing is usually done by the same guys that are touting Amsoil or some other gold plated synthetic oils. If I don't have to pay a lot for it, how can it be any good. :wall:

Since finding the list I posted above... I'll be looking for the cheapest of those brands that are available in my area. If Chrysler approved it I see no reason to not use it. :thumb:

If the info is right may be it could be added to the FAQ section?
-
It seems to be legitimate. Would definitely be useful if it was permanently posted somewhere. :wall:

These are just all the brands that paid the licensing fee to be called ATF+4 and have been sample tested. It does not mean they are all made by the same company though.

It's good to know that they all have a set of standards that they need to meet before being approved for the "atf +4" name. It's also good to know that they all are "periodically market-sampled to ensure consistent quality." This leaves me feeling much better about purchasing the less expensive generic brands. It doesn't matter if 20 companies make it or three... as long as it's tested and meets standards I'll use it.

Well, what's the difference then from GL standards or even 10w30? I mean, even generic branded oil from an auto parts store has standard to meet. So what makes ATF+4 special that it needs to be in the FAQ?

I see your point.
For me, I was hesitant to put anything but a brand name product in my trans. This is because nobody was able to prove to me that the generics were able to meet the same standards as Mopar brand atf +4. It seems to me that the brands listed above are Chrysler approved brands and I would not hesitate to put any of them in my Jeep simply because they are approved.
As far as I know...and correct me if I'm wrong... Chrysler will not void any warranties if an off brand of motor oil is used. As long as it's the correct weight and meets API and SAE standards.
I've seen on several forums (not this one) where people flat out refused to use any other brand of fluid other than what they got at the dealership or Valvoline. According to them other products with the atf +4 label on them were not the real thing but rather a remix of some other type. The list I provided proves otherwise and stops the propagation of misinformation. If misinformation on trans fluid isn't a problem here then I understand not posting it. However, it would be convenient to have for newbs coming here that may have gotten bad info from other places. Not to mention some of the lesser experienced members of this forum.
