Jeepers,
I'm recently back from Afghanistan with 24 MEU and just purchased my first wrangler...have been wanting one as long as I can remember...a '92 YJ 2.5L...and have been lurking and reading as many of your posts that I have time to. A wealth of knowledge and info, thank you all very much.
I have a couple of newbie questions that I can't readily find the answer to.
1. What is the stock height of a '92 YJ 2.5L? I have read once and only once that it's 18 inches from ground to stock running boards...is that correct?
- The reason I ask is that when I bought it there was a set of oversized shackles and shocks in the back of the jeep. When I asked the previous owner about them he said they were on it at one time but didn't know much about it wasn't sure if the lift was back to stock except for the 30" tires. I've read shackle lifts aren't a good idea and may cause damage to other components and wondering if there's anything I should be looking for while I'm crawling around under it.
2. How much change occured between the '90 & '95 YJ 2.5L models?
- I don't want to keep looking for a '92 service manual if a '93 or '95 will cover everything that a '92 manual will. I have a Haynes and it simply sucks and is missing quite a bit of info.
A few of the mods I have planned and on the way are a 4.0 TB and Spacer...next is an electric fan and then a cold air intake. Any other initail mods you would recommend?
Thanks again,
DevDawg

91-95 should be about the same... (in 92 they got a new roll bar to protect the back seat so 92-95 would be the closest in that respect). as for shackle lift generally .75 inches of shackle lift is the most you would want to run. the length of the stock shackles is around here somewhere.. or i could go to the garage and measure mine... and thanks for protecting our country

I dont remember the exact year, but I think it was '92 or '93 that they went from TBFI to MPFI...
-
1990 was the last year of tbi, 91 and up are mpi

Stock shackles are 4" hole to hole. Measure yours and subtract 4", then divide by 2 and you have the amount of lift.

DevDawg, another inexpensive mod is to replace your 17.4 lb. stock injectors with 19 lb. Ford mustang injectors. Look for the ones with four holes (2nd generation) as they atomize the fuel better.

4bangers,
Thanks to all for the replys, great info as expected.
The stock shackles and shocks are back on...all four extended (7 1/2" eye to eye) shackles and shocks had been taken off and thrown in the back when bought it. What I was concerned about was any possible issues I should look for particularly with the drive train. I have an odd vibration when I take my foot off the gas, push in the clutch or take out of gear at any speed above 35 mph and goes way once I slow down (coasting) to roughly that speed or step back on the gas putting stress back on the drivetrain. I read a similar problem that was caused by U-joints going bad...that may also be a upcoming weekend job.
chardrc - Good tip on the very slight changes between '92 & '95....that makes things much easier.
VA_YJ - I'm with you on the 19 lb injectors...have that in mind as well...thanks for heads up on the 2nd gen types.
Thanks again....
