well the radiator took a dump today and so did the thermostat.so i got a new rad and stat.the stat i got was a 180* one.its about 20* outside rite now and driving it around is a PITA now cause it runs so cold.
what is the factory stat temp??

dang...im gonna have to block part of the grill tommorrow for the trail ride so i wont get cold :brick:

Thermostats can be bad out of the box. I put in a new long block a few fears ago and went with a Robertshaw stat from Quadratech figuring I would go with the good stuff from the get go. Long story short the new engine was pinging and I looked for the vacuum leak forever just to find the thermostat was stuck half open. Just to give a heads up for things to expect maybe.

I check'em by dunking them in a pot of boiling water before I will install one. 15 min to check vs installing one only to find out it's bad is a good trade off. Yea they ain't hard to change but that are a pain.

When I changed mine, I went with a 190* RObert Shaw; I did not check it (probably should have), but so far it has worked flawlessly!

I hate reading threads like this, my YJ is running warm, (215-225º) I changed the thermostat recently, and have been thinking I just need to flush the Rad to get it to run cooler again used to run in the 170º range, then tried to overheat so I swapped the thermostat, now it sounds like I should swap the thermo again or at least pull and check it. :brick:

I've been wondering about my thermostat. As soon as I start, the temp guage maxes out. The needle on the guage used to jump around but now as soon as it's running it stays all the way to the right. Runs fine, but I'm really not too mechanical.

In your case it is most likely the sensor. The engine cannot get hot right away.

Okay, this morning I went to town and when I started up the temp was right above 210. Once I got about a mile down the road, it maxed out. If it is the sensor, where do I find that? Also, is it hard to replace?

the sensor was like 20 bucks at the dealet for me two yrs ago. its an eaasy swap its right on the back of the head drivers side. wanna say its like a 10 mm maybe bigger one wire sensor

Took me about 15 minutes to change mine (including the time getting the tools out)
