Title: Installed my Design III Injectors this afternoon
Post by: TahoeYJ on January 26, 2009, 10:49:04 PM
I had the day off and had a couple things to do in the morning, I came home around noon to find my new-to-me Design III 19# injectors in the mail from D42. the package arrived a day earlier than I  expected and upon first glance they appeared to be in great shape. They were clean as a whistle and he even had them in a plastic baggie with what I figured was the date they were pulled?

Anyway, install didn't take long at all, maybe 20 minutes max. the first one didn't want to fit, after a couple minutes I realized the OE injector o-ring was stuck inside  :pirate: After that install was a breeze. As for driving impressions, I gained a bit more than I expected! Throttle response was improved and it's waaaay smoother off the line up to about 30 MPH, it seemed to lug a bit at low RPM's and that's totally gone now. I noticed the biggest difference from 3500-5000, it's much more fun to cruise at 40-50 in 3rd now, the power comes in much smoother. 5-6K revs freer too, but the only time I really ring it out anyway is towing

A hotter coil and air tube are my next steps. I can't wait to see what she's like then

-20 tallrugbyguy, You got some Brass ones doing that at that Temp  :yikes:  Any how looking at getting a Ford 8.8 for my jeep in Feb. When I did my injectors I let the  o-rings soak in gas while I installed them. Make's a Big difference from the stock ones

my o rings were to told.
that was -20 celcius (not sure what that equates to in ferinheight). i had to use vasaline to get them, no amount of gasoline was helping them.

I haven't driven much, but mileage does seem to be a bit better. Power seems to have gotten a bit better too, I jumped on it hard earlier and it seems to pick up waaaaay better in the higher RPM range  Getting to 60 wasn't bad at all before, now it gets there even quicker.

Haha I guess I'll have to wait and see wha my mileage gains will be next time I fill up. Since I put these things in I've been playing with the throttle a lot more, and like I said before it's a lot of fun being able to gun it in 3rd and have the power come in instantly  :smokes:

Another update  :weee:

I've definitely not been easy, nor hard on it this week, but haven't really been able to keep my foot out of the gas, and I've averaged 16+  Before I installed these babies I was getting 14-15 with my foot always in the skinny pedal, so I'm pretty happy with what I'm seeing. If I baby it I get 18+, I think it'll be hard to improve on that with just injectors. This is all city driving too, up and down hills, playing around with the throttle, etc. I can't wait to see what I get on the highway.

If I get paid today    I'll probably pick up a coil and install it after work. I can get an MSD Blaster coil for about $30 give or take, so I figure it's worth it  :smokes:

Well that's good news, The snow and ice is starting to melt today. When I installed them with the coil I was Very Happy. Think next week I am going Hunting for a ford 8.8 rear end. I still need to do the E-Fan Mod, And get the AEM Air intake. Part's always more parts. Then go SOA & High Steer Kit.

  :beers: :wine:

When Installing the injectors did you have to modify anything else or could I just pop them into my fairly stock 2.5 and not worry about any computer troubles?  I have a pacesetter header and no cat, with a little muffler. other than that it's pretty stock.

Ie done minor intake porting and added a 4.0 TB, and plan on adding a TB spacer, hotter coil, and possibly a header later on down the road. I've also been slowly working on porting the intake off my old 2.5, it's almost done now   :smokes: Gonna work on my old head a bit too, get the valves re-done and slap 'er on one of these days... Thinking about just taking my old block, tearing it down and using some stronger interals and then adding forced induction at some point  :weee:

But another quick update- I babied it all weekend and it seems that when I keep my foot out of the gas, I'm averaging 17-18, that being 85% city, and 15% short freeway trips. As soon as I fix my tranny I'll be headed down to Hollister for some wheelin' that will be the perfect trip to see what kind of highway MPG I'll get  :thumb:

Will upgrading the injectors to Design III in a 97 2.5L be the same?
