Title: oil in air filter
Post by: tallrugbyguy on February 02, 2009, 05:35:33 PM
So i have oil in my air filter. as well when its cold and i check it i also have a build up of ice on top. is the ice normal? any idea where thats comming from. the oil is somtimes a bit brown. but i changed the oil and couldent see and brown in it sudgesting anitfreeze conttamination. as well no antifreeze in my rad.

i cleaned the two hoses that enter the box. and its still hapening.
if this means a engine rebuild then i assume its becuse there is oil getting past the o rings? and if so my spark plugs would show signs of burnt oil and such. (which they dont).
i drive a 95 yj. 2.5

also what is the estimated cost in rebuilding the motor if i was to do it myself?

It's called blow by, the CCV system is blowing oil from the valve cover into your air box. It's fairly common on jeeps, alot of people just build in their own "catch can" to stop it.

I'm sure others can chime in on their findings, I have not dealt with the issue yet.

i know some is normal. but about a third of my air filter is full. rather fix the problem (if it can be) then just let the oil drip.
